Microsoft Bypasses HOSTS File
whitehatlurker writes "Dave Korn announced on the Full Disclosure and Bugtraq security lists that Microsoft is bypassing local lookups for some hosts, meaning that you can't locally block some sites through your HOSTS file. All of these sites are MicroSoft controlled sites.
The general feeling in the rest of the thread is that this was to obfuscate these hosts and prevent them from being blocked by malware. However, there are no non-MicroSoft hosts listed, giving a competitive advantage for MicroSoft's anti-malware tools over other brands."
Get over it.
Use Linux.
Use a Mac.
I work for Microsoft.
So I am really getting a kick out of most of these replies.
Some of you guys are very good at making it sound like you know what you are talking about.
But trust me.... You don't.
I think you just want to make yourself sound smart, when in reality you dont
know what you are talking about.
This is how bad info gets passed around.
If you dont know about the topic....Don't make yourself sound like you do.
Cuz some Slashdotters belive anything they hear.
let me guess, you voted for bush right? mind being a little verbose on your point of view? I'll try to respond, but maybe your future replies should include exactly WHAT the counter point is besides "you're wrong, you're so wrong mr. man" It is an advantage to Microsoft Inc, that was my point, if you want to say I was saying something else then go ahead. like I said your response is a little lacking in content for my to refute (again that's a bushism) so I don't know where to go with this
Hey... isn't activex a microsoft "technology"? Why not just fix activex?
Can anyone think of a way to override the override? I'd install a patch that overrode MS's latest "trust me" hack.
I come here for the love
No program can replace that backup copy, as the NTFS filesystem driver has been modified to only let services with the name Win32::Registry access the directory.
