ezavada writes "Engadget reports that in a speech at Tuskegee University, President Bush claims that government research developed the iPod." From the article: "While we have to gratefully acknowledge the efforts of government agencies such as DARPA in some of the fields mentioned by the President, we also feel obligated to point out the accomplishments of private companies in the US and abroad, including IBM, Hitachi and Toshiba -- not to mention the Fraunhofer Institute, which developed the original MP3 codec ..."

    I know that the wheel control of the Ipod makes it easy to scroll thorugh songs. But besides that, is there any special tech in an Ipod? I do not own one so I don't know. What so special that the President of a country would even try to take any credit for it?

    Alas I don't like to get into political conversations, but I also don't like people smugly saying something so blatently wrong even more.

    Speaking of smug, I find that people that use the word "alas" in common speech typically fit the bill. Score a point for irony.

    Partially, but I'd say it has more to do with the local thuggocrats flooding their countries with propaganda that blames the USA for their own incompetence. Castro does the same thing.

    Agreed,

    No one learns a Texas drawl in New Haven, however, I give "Dub" credit as I believe the inability to articulate polysylabic words is genuine. Maybe it's related to not reading...
