Cringely Posits Adobe's Purchase by Apple

An anonymous reader writes to mention another Robert Cringely piece discussing Apple's future. In his latest article, he lays out some goals for Apple on its quest to desktop dominance. An important link in this chain is Apple's purchase of Adobe Systems. From the article: "Adobe has already made one feint away from Mac development that required personal pressure from Steve Jobs on John Warnock to reverse. If Apple kinda-sorta embraces Windows enough for Adobe to question whether continued development for the native OS X platform is still warranted, well, then Apple WILL just become another Dell, which isn't what Steve Jobs wants. Steve wants Windows applications to run like crazy on his hybrid platform but to look like crap. In his heart of hearts, he'd still like to beat Microsoft on the merits, not just by leveraging some clever loophole. So he needs the top ISVs who are currently writing for OS X to continue writing for OS X, and that especially means Adobe."

um I dont think its either.

    1) it just came out 1 month ago to the new intel macs that where announced WHEN the product was announced and told would not have intel support quite yet. Thats NOT enough time to expect adoption, especially when people where holding off for the Intel macs themselves.

Rumors are rumors and I take any rumor from Cringely with a huge grain of salt. Not to mention he is the first person I have even HEARD this rumor from, and the Apple spy network is more likely to have heard it before he would have.

His delusions and evangelistic view of apple just get more ridiculous. This article is just a load of inconsistent rambings. Why does the poor guy have to constantly put down Microsoft in that Evangelical Appleist way.
I think it is more likely that apple will drop OS X, and sell machines with Windows, perhaps with a simplified mac style desktop layer on top. The operating system never sold Macs to anyone except the evangelical wing of the Apple Church - it has always been good style, and heavy marketing. Windows is technically a much better operating system, however much you dislike Microsoft. Now that you can benchmark side-by-side with OS X on the same hardware, it is not hard to convince yourself of this. Just try running a heavily loaded website, or a large database server from each, and see which grinds to a halt first. Windows definitely manages high load/many connections MUCH better with both apache and oracle. OS X is the outdated OS - the last commercial UNIX shipping with the old Mach/XSI kernel. The last system shipping with the horribly primitive Mach-o binary format. The last remaining user of the Objective-C language. Do you want to go down these blind technological alleys only to be cut off, as has happened so many times before with apple? I think not.

Amen, brother. Cringely's batting average for predictions must be .005. Why does anyone take him seriously? Remember when he claimed to have bounced a wifi signal off a mountain.
