E3 On Xbox Live Leads With Lost Planet

Next week all 360 owners can look forward to a free week of Xbox Live 'Gold service'. During the E3 events, dozens of pieces of downloadable content will be available via the service. Gamespot reports that this content will include a demo of the Capcom action-shooter Lost Planet. From the article: "One of the most anticipated titles tentatively set to ship for the 360 this year is Epic Games' Gears of War. While no demo for the third-person shooter will be made available, Microsoft will 'debut the first-ever Gears of War high-definition game trailer' on Xbox Live Marketplace. Several movie trailers will also be made available, as well as 'a flood of HD trailers from games that have yet to be announced.'"

I think I fit under the "all 360 owners", but they already have my money: I don't see how it's going to be "free" to me.

In fact they've been giving away a bunch of free weekends, so it seems... Doesn't this devalue the service for paying members?

Another shooter on the 360?! I never saw that one coming.. Between upcoming games this and GoW and Halo 3, I cant imagine how the 360 isnt selling better than any console before it! I mean, the range of games is so diverse!

Seriously, i thought microsoft were trying to make the Xbox 360 seem less 'hardcore', when are the games for the casual gamers going to show up?

They might say they are going after the casual gamer, but the casual gamer is still happy with his/her Xbox or PS2. Casual gamers don't go out and drop $400+ for a console they are going to play a couple hours a week, if that.

I don't think it's supposed to be appealing to casual gamers, I think it's supposed to be a Wife Acceptance Factor thing - "Look honey, you can play Bejewled on it!"

Maybe once the price comes down, sure, but I think for right now it's the same idea behind releasing Phantom of the Opera as an HD-DVD launch title.

The "new" is that you can download and watch these things at home as they're being shown at E3, instead of waiting for some advert laden webside to post a small 400x275 handheld recording off of a video screen that has the top of someone else's head in the middle of the picture.
