No Space for MySpace?
conq writes "BusinessWeek looks at the flaws in the bill proposed by the House of Representatives that would block access to social networks and Internet chat rooms in most federally funded schools and libraries. One big problem with their bill is it is much too vague, it 'could rule out content from any number of Internet companies, including Yahoo! and Google.' What's more, DOPA would prohibit sites that enable users to create their own content and share it. That covers a wide swath of the online world, known colloquially as Web 2.0, where users actively create everything from blogs to videos to news-page collections." This is analysis of a bill we covered yesterday.
The idea? Keeping kids and teens off potentially dangerous sites, at least on public school and library time -- not to mention keeping would-be offenders from using library terminals for nefarious deeds.
"Nefarious deeds," added Fitzpatrick "like thinking."

That covers a wide swath of the online world, known colloquially as Web 2.0...
Colloquially, or as I like to say, "by idiots."

I was under the impression that Web 2.0 [oreillynet.com] was from O'Reilly.
Heaven forbid that the Internet be anything that Al Gore and Bill Gates did not invent.
And how is coming up with a pointless and redundant name for a web site an "invention"?
Dynamic content has been part of the nature of the web since day one!
There IS NO WEB 2.0, it's not a standard, it's not a technology, it's a stupid buzzword thrown around by people who still think frontpage was a good html editor. In other words marketing types who make cookie cutter web sites. That and self absorbed designers who want to sound impressive and "on the leading edge" of technology and will not admit they are just doing the same old thing the rest of us started doing in the 90's...
Also, I know you where using it as a joke, but neither Al Gore or Bill Gates has done ANY THING that benefited the Internet. Lamers who don't know better tend to think M$ did us all some big favor by finally implementing TCP/IP in their OS (after everyone else, and poorly at that) and copying Netscapes web browser ideas. The truth of the matter is the Internet took off IN SPITE of what M$ tried to do to it. Any one who thinks M$ has done any thing to benefit the computer industry needs a SERIOUS history leason. Bill Gates and his crew have leeched off of other peoples success for ever. The PC and the Internet became popular IN SPITE of M$'s constant short comings and lack of programming skill and fore site into OS design. And both will continue to thrive long after M$ is gone...
