The New Wireless Wars
An anonymous reader writes "BusinessWeek has a story on the coming wireless wars. It's a look at how the upcoming government auction of wireless spectrum will open the door to a new crop of competitors. The new players, from Google and Microsoft to Intel and Craig McCaw's Clearwire, will compete in new wireless voice services and in wireless broadband. Look out Cingular, Verizon Wireless, and Sprint-Nextel."

Hello,
Seeing your history, what's the difference between your user and anonymous coward in terms of IP bans?
thanks.
Hang on. What Government? Oh phew.. that other one.
I registered this username back in 1999 (proof: look at the low username # and the fact that this is my first post) and finally remembered the password! It just came to me out of nowhere.
Damn, but I don't wanna be the village idiot. Anybody wants a 5-digit username?
Hmm, maybe I should put it up on ebay.
My Mini crashes every other day. My Dell with XP, not once in seven months.
:)
Maybe if you ran OSX on your mini it wouldn't crash so much. Just because XP runs on a Mac these days, doesn't mean it will run well.
Can I get an eye poke?

User's don't get banned, they only get low post limits. Parent post account can only post once in any given 24 hour period, so I can't post again with that account for 24 hours.
IPs (class c subnets to be exact) are what get banned. I haven't really tried to figured out the pattern but it seems that if you post strictly down-modded posts, you get banned quicker and for increasing longer periods. If you mix karma posting with good accounts and trolling/crap flooding with minus one accounts you can keep the subnet from being banned altogther. I think maybe it is an additive thing. As long as the trend is upward moderation, it seems fine. Whatever the equation is, I am sure CmdrTaco worked it out with a crayon and a circle of paper between tossing Zonk's salad and beating off to anime.
Anyway, once your account is at -1 default post, you don't get modded down much. I am pretty much convinced that it is only the editors with their unlimited mod points that mod me down. Come on...who would waste one of only five mod points to mod down a post that is already at minus one?
Oh and regardless of what they say, sock-puppet accounts are tied together some how. Once you do what ever it is you do to trigger a mod ban, none of your accounts will ever get mod points again. I have a couple of accounts that have had max karma for five years that have never, ever received mod points. I haven't had mod points since 2001.
Did someone let the Time Cube dude out of his cage again? I mean seriously, what the fuck does this post say?
