MS Proposes JPEG Alternative

automatix writes "Microsoft's new competitor to the omnipresent JPEG format has been shown at WinHEC and is discussed on CNET. The Windows Media Photo format has many promises associated with it. The program manager is claiming 'We can do it in half the size of a JPEG file.'. While 'the philosophy has been that licensing should not be a restriction', it is interesting that the specification requires a click-through agreement to even read it."

they used to make only operating systems (which took them a while to perfect) and then they made Office (which took them a while to perfect)

I'm sorry, but this must be some usage of the word "perfect" of which I was previously unaware.

Is this like "The Bush Administration waged a war in Iraq, which took them a while to perfect"?

Hit a little too close to home, eh, Whiney?

And why don't you respond as yourself instead of as AC, you stupid fag?

You know that's exactly what you're doing. Anyone can see it. You fucking sit on slashdot, feverishly waiting for the next story to come up for subscribers, craft some dipshitted response, get modded up. It's so obvious that it's ridiculous. And if you miss your "first post" with guaranteed upmoderation, you pepper the first few highly moderated comments with "Insightful" ones of your own, which themselves are guaranteed to get moderated up.

And no, it's not jealousy, dumbass: it's amazement at the fact people keep moderating you up, and don't see through your stupid, childish agenda to attack anything related with Apple or Mac OS X when you have an opportunity. Your clever (and totally incorrect, misguided, and nonsensical) posts in response to those pointing out that Jobs offered OS X to the One Laptop Per Child project are case-in-point. It wouldn't have been an unmodified OS X, fuckwad. Apple would have worked as closely as necessary with the project to provide a polished OS that ran properly and ran well on the hardware in question. Would it have been "good PR for Apple" either way? Of course, shitface. But Jobs actually does care, too. (And sure, you can say Gates also does with his Foundation, so Jobs is no "better", but whatever.)

The only "jealously" here is the clear jealousy and outrage you have when people pay attention to Apple offerings that are, for all their shortcomings, bugs, and flaws, arguably superior to the competition, or at a very minimum, a hell of a lot more innovative. Your brilliantly crafted replies that make it sound like you're neutral, but are really trolling, are already being seen for what they are. No jealousy here. For your "jealousy", you only need look in the mirror. What's sad is the amount of time you have to apparently sit on slashdot, thirsting for your upmoderation (read: validation).

But the bottom line is that slashdot is meaningless in the big scheme of things. Just as meaningless and forgetful as your posts.

Does anyone truly care anymore how big a photo file is?

Get a faster connection or a bigger disk. This isn't 1990 anymore people!
