The 10 Tech People Who Don't Matter
TopShelf writes "Business 2.0 recently ran a feature on the Top 50 People Who Matter in the business world, but perhaps more interesting is their list of the 10 People Who Don't Matter. Leading off the list is a Slashdot favorite, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer..." Given, Rob's in there as well, but I'd say his company in the list is pretty decent.
So why read my comment? I don't matter guys!
"I fear that the droning of Digg will become the norm,[...]"
... it's really disgusting. Even on the homepage - there is tons of crap to wade through. I used to "digg" 5-10 stories a day, now thats down to 2-3 and I spend more time "reporting" stories than digging them.
/., we have to deal with the FP'ers, the GNAA, and the trolls but that's to be expected. They have the same thing over at digg PLUS spammers. Not only that, the readership seems to be younger (or just more immature), less knowledgable (as a whole) and not nearly as funny as those here on /. Yes, /. has gone downhill a little bit. But the comments are what saves it. You guys make me laugh everyday and sometimes shed light onto topics those such as myself may have a hard time grasping.
/.
/. needs to try a bit harder with the articles and lessen the amt. of dupes but overall is doing a good job. Quality-wise, it is 100x better than Digg. Don't worry Rob, the masses may come and go to these other sites - but as long as you keep /. of decent quality (and maybe even improve the quality a little bit?) people will still be here. I know I will be.
As do I. However, digg has many of it's own problems. I've been visiting there for over a year and registered there for 11 months and in that time the quality of the site/submissions/comments has gone downhill. There were many good submissions and fewer comments (of higher quality) when I first started viewing the site.
Here are the problems with digg:
1) You think Slashdot's dupes are bad? They are nothing compared to diggs. Not only that, but you will see the WORST submissions duped and re-duped - possibly in the same day. Lists of top 100 ways to tweak XP, lists of top 100 free software, flash games, dumb videos, AJAX, incestuous articles about digg itself
2) The users/viewers/commenters. Sure, here at
3) The new redesign (launched today) is horrible. Digg was messy enough to begin with, now it's even worse.
Digg is a flash in the pan. They will continue grow in popularity until critical mass has been reached, and then it will be gone. I am also convinced that, at some point, someone else will come along and beat digg at it's own game. The new one may have more editorial control, a better comment system (gee sound likes slashdot), a better design (digg is SLOW - especially the comments sections), but digg will not be around as long as
I wish I could give my mod points away. I'm tired of being saddled with approving this garbage for the general public's consumption. Maybe I should start modding GNAA posts Insightful...
Procrastination -- because good things come to those who wait.
Dude, you make me yawn. Why not go away? :)
