Everybody Loves the Wii

1up is reporting on Ubisoft's enthusiastic adoption of the Wii platform. They'd previously only had two titles announced for the system (Red Steel and a Rayman game), but now claim to have seven different titles in production. From the article: "Ubisoft North America President Laurent Detoc ... praised the Wii several times during the panel, stating that he expects it to have 'a large audience and market.' He also stated that he personally felt that in a time when fewer and fewer games appeal to him, the Wii offers plenty of enjoyment. 'The first time I picked up that sucker I couldn't stop playing it.'" Ars Technica is also reporting that EA is gung-ho about the system. From that article: "EA not only indicated that they are taking the Wii and DS seriously, but the company also hinted that they will follow Nintendo's guidance and release games at or near the $49.99 price point. Nintendo has urged developers and publishers to respect the $49.99 price point, believing that it reflects a value advantage over other consoles. EA did not offer a firm commitment to that pricing, contrary to reports elsewhere."

    Dream on fanboy.

The Wii is clearly becoming the dumping ground for publishers - just recycle old GameCube games/engines.

The Wii games we've seen so far are almost painful to look at with not a hint of all this 'Innovation Hype' Nintendo has been running their mouths off about for the past year.

Oh lookie, this game is 'innovative' cuz you point at stuff!

Oh lookie, this Wii game is 'innovative' cuz you swing the controller!

    Yawn...

"Sony on the other hand is in a terrible position"

    What?

Microsoft has died in the market before the next gen battle has even started - only three million worldwide sold and dead in Japan and Europe. From rumblings on Microsoft employee boards it sounds like Microsoft won't be in the console market much longer and turn their attention to Vista gaming.

And Nintendo is selling a slightly modified GameCube.

And Sony is the one in a terrible position???

So every feature it has that doesn't turn gaming into watered down, jerky, gimmicky shit I can already do on PSP? Great, fuck Nintendo, and fuck their plans to change gaming to conform to the ideals of the stupid non-gamers. They don't care about hardcores, and their idiot fanbase doesn't realize it.

So why do you defend such actions? What Nintendo is doing with the Wii, and the developers they've courted back, is hurting gaming as we know it and turning it into non-gamer affair, with overly simplified, poorly made, low-quality shit ass gimmicky titles that may as well just be tech demos.

    a) What to you think "jerky, gimmicky shit" is? Why the fuck would I want to wave my controller or console around.

    b) Hardcores care about the games, and Nintendo isn't delivering with the "slightly modified Smash Bros 3", "now you can jump to planets Mario Umpteen", and "Hey look, the same Zelda with much, much worse controls".

    c) Graphics don't matter, but physics, AI, and room and ability to make your game without it running at 30FPS if you're lucky (ala Shadow of the Colossus) does.

    d) Why do you care that Nintendo makes money? What should matter is that they're trying to make games you/I/true gamers (if indeed, you are one, I have my doubts) like, rather then trying to appeal to a lower common denomiator then even EA? I'm boycotting EA for less then this, and if Nintendo still didn't have good games coming out for GameCube, I'd cut them off my money for good as well. But you? No, you're Nintendo's good little bitch. They say "you don't want this, you don't want this", and you agree no matter how stupid the decision is. Go back to sucking Nintendo's cock and taking it up your ass from them and get the fuck off Slashdot.

Last, but not least, once again fuck Nintendo, and fuck you their corperate shill numero uno.
