An Early Look at Freespire Linux
An anonymous reader writes "DesktopLinux.com takes an early look at Freespire Linux in a recent article. Linspire will be releasing their first version of Freespire, the first community Linux distribution to include many third-party proprietary codecs, drivers, and software. From the article: 'While I still have my doubts about the long-term wisdom of using proprietary software and drivers with Linux, I must say that if you feel you need to use such programs, Freespire makes it much easier than any other Linux distribution. And, when is all said and done, that's really what Freespire is all about -- making Linux as easy as possible for users.'"
Whatever. Ubuntu is built up to be the holy fuckin' grail.... but, it's not. It's really just another shitty Debian-based distro just like all the others with nothing special to write home about. Mark Shuttleworth is going to fuck over FOSS when he takes it commercial and there is nothing you can do to stop him. If you want a small taste of how much Ubuntu supports OSS -- ask them about their "Launchpad" application. Why isn't that open sourced? The *only* thing that Ubuntu has going for them is that they mail you free CD's. Whoopdi fuckin' doo. I know that this is sacreligous on Slashdot and I will be banned from existance. But, I'm sick of all the Ubuntu fanboys who think that Ubuntu is the shit. It's not.... and someday (probably when it's too late) you'll see that.
