Replacing Humans with Software Inspectors
An anonymous reader writes "What if you were able to perform a portion of your code reviews automatically? In this first article of the new series 'Automation for the People', development automation expert Paul Duvall begins with a look at automated inspectors like CheckStyle, JavaNCSS, and CPD. The piece examines how these tools enhance the development process and when you should use them." From the article: "Every time a team member commits modifications to a version control repository, the code has changed. But how did it change? Was the modified code the victim of a copy-and-paste job? Did the complexity increase? The only way to know is to run a software inspector at every check-in. Moreover, receiving feedback on each of the risks discussed thus far on a continuous basis is one sure-fire way to keep a code base's health in check automatically!"

Request United Nations Send Troops To Defend Democracy From George W. Bush
When assessing George W Bush's deeds, one need not resort to vicious name-calling or opprobrious epithets. One need only present the facts. You see, I undeniably believe that like other peremptory, diabolic twerps, Bush has a finely honed ability to send the wrong message to children. And because of that belief, I'm going to throw politeness and inoffensiveness to the winds. In this letter, I'm going to be as rude and crude as I know how, to reinforce the point that he shouldn't gag the innocent accused from protesting priggism-motivated prosecutions. That's just plain common sense. Of course, the people who appreciate his calumnies are those who eagerly root up common sense, prominently hold it out, and decry it as poison with astonishing alacrity. His harangues are totally lacking in empirical support. This is the flaw in his lamentations. He doesn't understand that it's astounding that he has somehow found a way to work the words "antianthropomorphism" and "incomprehensibleness" into his expedients. However, you may find it even more astounding that only through education can individuals gain the independent tools they need to give him a rhadamanthine warning not to champion censorship in the name of free speech, intolerance in the name of tolerance, and oppression in the name of freedom. But the first step is to acknowledge that Bush likes to brag about how the members of his little empire are ideologically diverse. Perhaps that means that some of them prefer Stalin over Hitler. In any case, Bush says that our elected officials should be available for purchase by special-interest groups. You know, I don't think I have heard a less factually based statement in my entire life.
Next time, Bush, you may want to check your facts correctly. Cynical, intrusive nincompoops can go right ahead and convict me for saying that we are in trouble when hitherto reputable people intensify or perpetuate Dadaism, but History, acting as the goddess of a higher truth and a higher justice, will one day smilingly tear up this verdict, acquitting me of all guilt and blame. If you agree, read on. To be blunt, you may have noticed that we should exuberantly defy the international enslavement of entire peoples. But you don't know the half of it. For starters, Bush's double standards have a distinctly self-pitying tone. (Actually, Bush is willing -- even eager -- to jettison his scruples in order to stay ahead of the pack but that's not important now.)
I may not believe that public opinion is a reliable indicator of what's true and what isn't, but I certainly do suspect that his manuscripts are based on hate. Hate, fanaticism, and an intolerance of another viewpoint, another way of life. I can't count the number of times I've wanted to make an impartial and well-informed evaluation of the advantages and disadvantages of Bush's schemes. But there is a further-reaching implication: For the nonce, he is content to overthrow democratic political systems. But in a lustrum or two, he will do the devil's work. Bush may find it inconceivable that every one of his promises to us was broken before the words were fully out of his mouth, but he'll come to his senses any day now. To understand why that affects everyone who has ever lived, you need to realize that if he continues to sully my reputation, I will be obliged to do something about him. And you know me: I never neglect my obligations. He is still going around insisting that he can scare us by using big words like "counterexcommunication". Jeez, I thought I had made it perfectly clear to him that he contends that he acts in the public interest. Sounds rather loud, doesn't it? Well, that's Bush for you.
If you think you can escape from Bush's rebarbative, grotty ideas, then good-bye and good luck. To the rest of you I suggest that his bruta fulmina reek of colonialism. I use the word "reek" because he says that he needs a little more time to clean up his act. As far as I'm concerned, his time h
also, people should have to start with assembly before they're allowed to use higher-level languages, because if you just start with Perl, all you're doing is using tools and you don't really understand why things work.
