No 3rd Party Online Support for Wii Until Next Year?

Via Joystiq, a preview for Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam at IGN. Such a thing isn't really news, of course, but down at the bottom of the article there is some distressing information. According to IGN, third party online support for the Wii will have to wait until next year. Joystiq points out that this could mean launch titles like Monkey Ball, Blazing Angels, and Call of Duty 3 may be offline-only.

    You can't expect it to deliver something like Xbox Live at $200. It's a fun little console, designed for simple gameplay. It's not meant for those looking for all the perks of a more sophisticated system.

      Bwahahah!!! You HAVE to be fucking joking. Microsoft's online service is so bad they didn't even state a number of suckers paying the absurd 50 dollar a year charge. Instead they played word games in their latest press release trying to make it appear the people who hooked up their system to the Net were paying subscribers. If the number of suckers willing to pay the 50 dollars a year fee is so low that Microsoft won't even mention it, the number has to be lower than the abysmal 7 percent of people on the first Xbox.

      Only a complete idiot would waste the 200 to 250 dollars extra to the price of the already expensive 360 at 400 dollars just for the privilege of playing games online from Microsoft over the life of their console.

      360 online gaming costs 50 dollars every fucking year - PC gaming is free
      360 online gaming has fewer number of players per game than the equivalent PC game
      360 graphics look worse than the equivalent PC game

      Microsoft online gaming is a disaster. Shitty service compared to PC gaming with a bunch of idiotic shit taked on to try to justify the stupid 50 dollar a year charge.

      Anyone who has played DS games online absolutely raves about Nintendo's service. Wii online gaming will kick just as much ass as DS online gaming does right now.

    Xbox Live downloads have exceeded iTunes downloads. I have a 360, and the only game I have that I don't play online is Oblivion.
