611 Defects, 71 Vulnerabilities Found In Firefox
Danny Begonia writes, "Some folks at Klocwork examined the large and complicated code base of the popular open source browser, Firefox. Overall, Firefox is a well written and high quality piece of software. Several builds were performed on the code, culminating in the final analysis of version 1.5.0.6. The analysis resulted in 611 defects and 71 potential security vulnerabilities. The Firefox team has been given the analysis results, and they will determine if or how they will deal with the issues." What are your thoughts — do Firefox and the open source community welcome this kind of analysis?
There must be some sort of mistake. Firefox is Open Source, which means there are thousands of people reading the source code all the time. Clearly there can be no security vulnerabilities they would have missed! Because if all it takes to seriously compromise open source software is the $$$ to look for bugs, the heads of slashdot posters everywhere will explode!
IE rocks, Firefox sucks.
The Microsoft Windows Firefox?
Another plea to Mofo-please give the true open source product a different name, and separate the efforts COMPLETELY. The windows build is destroying it, and you can NOT get people to differentiate between the two when reporting stories. They just call it all "firefox", it needs a different name for the different operating systems. The windows stealth microsoft SCO version version is bringing in cooties by the hundreds now, isn't this clue enough? Or is sabotage the goal?
