UnBox Calls Home, A Lot
SachiCALaw writes "It turns out that to use UnBox, the user has to download software from Amazon that contains a Windows service (ADVWindowsClientService.exe). Tom Merritt over at C|Net reports that the service tries to connect to the internet quite frequently. Even tweaking msconfig could not prevent it." From the article: "So, in summary, to be allowed the privilege of purchasing a video that I can't burn to DVD and can't watch on my iPod, I have to allow a program to hijack my start-up and force me to login to uninstall it? No way. Sorry, Amazon. I love a lot of what you do, but I will absolutely not recommend this service. Try again."
Fuck you, shithead.
Listen p*ssy. I'm sure your the same homo that posted earlier about alf's boner and you just want to remain anonymous fo
What he describes sounds a lot like my experience with iTunes on Windows. It includes at least one useless service. Stop the service and it restarts by itself. Remove it and it comes back. Plenty of phone home activity. Messes up the ability to burn discs. And so on. Barf. If it wasn't so handy, I'd reformat and never install it again.
I understand that English is a living language, but I object to changes arising merely from repeated errors.
On OS that costs a lot, is difficult to secure, won't play nicely with others on a network, is impossible to configure, and forces you to upgrade not only the OS but your hardware frequently?
All that while better and cheaper alternatives are available?
Well I guess if people would buy that, they'd buy some stupid little video downloads from Amazon. *shrugs*
