CoD 2 Hits 1 Million Sold

Gamasutra reports that the first 360 to hit a million copies sold is, unsurprisingly, Call of Duty 2. From the article: "The World War II themed first person shoot 'em-up was already the best selling title available at launch in the U.S. and is now officially the best selling title of all time on the format, as well as being the most popular Xbox 360 game on Xbox Live. Although console launches have traditionally been dominated by first party releases this convention has proven less true in recent years with LucasArts' Star Wars: Rogue Leader - Rogue Squadron II (also published by Activision in Europe) proving to be the best selling title at the launch of the GameCube. Sony meanwhile, has rarely relied heavily on first party titles for any of its console launches."

Well, I'm not surprised that snake-oil merchant Grant Collier and the people at Infinity Ward made it big with the 360 crowd. Good for them.

However, the legions of die-hard Call of Duty PC online gamers that they managed to alienate with the release of CoD2 aren't going to forget about the slights, the lies, and the outright insult of being ignored. "Modders just weren't there", "All-New From-Scratch Game Engine", "the game is not 'dumbed down' for the Xbox360", and "Nothing wrong with the game" were the biggest insults to the PC crowd, especially when all three of those statements were patent lies. Grant Collier personally spit on the PC multiplayer community. While the single-player game is a worthwhile play - their sophmoric treatment of the multiplayer aspect and large CoD community won't be forgotten.

4 less-than-useless patches, a broken anti-cheat (which was only included as a PR stunt to soothe the angry PC crowd), a broken multiplayer experience, dumbed-down interface, and a game that should have been a multiplayer "great" is now withered on the vine.

I can name at least 50 people who will never buy an Infinity Ward product again - because of their shoddy treatment of the PC gamers that made them what they are. Stay on the console side of the fence, Grant.
