Was the 2004 Election Stolen?
jZnat writes, "In June Rolling Stone ran an article by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. delving into the statistical improbability that Bush won the 2004 election based on massive amounts of evidence that support a Republican-sponsored election fraud across the country, particularly in Ohio. The GOP used a number of tactics in its fraudulent campaign including ballot-stuffing, denying newly registered voters (particularly in urban and minority precincts) their voting privileges via illegal mailings known as caging lists, inane voter registration requirements, preventing thousands of voters from receiving provisional ballots, under-providing Democrat-majority precincts with voting machines thus creating enormous queues of voters, faulty machines (particularly from Diebold) that skewed results in the GOP's favor, mostly unnoticed ballot-stuffing and fraud in rural areas, and a fixed recount that was paid for by the Green and Libertarian parties that essentially supported the initial fraudulent numbers." From the article: "'Ohio was as dirty an election as America has ever seen,' Lou Harris, the father of modern political polling, told me."
In June Rolling Stone ran an article by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Yep, there's two bastions of unbiased opinion.

Seriously, Let it go
Bush won the election. Get over it. I don't care how much you don't like him or how much you don't agree with him; that doesn't matter, but he won the election. Move on. Just because the person you voted for didn't win doesn't mean the whole thing is a sham.

Sad, but I think that it will happen again.
To me, it seems inconceivable that very wealthy republicans would conspire to do such a thing - I can not even relate to that much greed.
And greed is what this is about: the super rich and multi-national corporations save so much money with Bush tax cuts - that is their motivation.
I call Bush's fiscal policies "cut and run economics" - give tax cuts to the super rich, run up the deficits, and run away like cowards letting future generations suffer (I am a grandpa of two young kids - this is something I really care about).
Snivelling cut and run fiscal cowards.
left leaning as in "leaning towards the voice of open discussion and reason", then yes, i agree with you!
There's nothing wrong with ohio...except the snow, rain, and fraudulent voting of course.
Oh goodie, another opportunity for "rape victims" to bitch about being raped and blame anyone but themselves. Don't were a short dress and you get better results.

Wake up sheeple...
and you just lost the argument. I didn't bother reading the rest of your post but i assume you called Bush Hitler yadda yadda.
Democrats need to learn to lose and learn from it or maybe they like the loser role.

If you believe that Clinton was moving towards the center, all that tells us is that you are far left of the US version of center. Every man's center is different - I think that the US went too far left and is merely correcting.

But what would the polarizing left-wing extremism be
* Socialized medicine
* Destruction of privacy via various social services agencies (I deal with this one myself very regularly*** and it goes from spying on medical records without a warrant, overzealous mandatory reporters (ie, a doctor that reported me to DSS for abuse because my dad's foot developed an ulcer only for me to find out that he has diabetes when I took him to have it treated), "anonymous accusers" who they can make up to come visit you but don't have to disclose).
* Over regulation of the economy (raising minimum wages LOWERS the relative wage of working adults by causing inflation. 10 years of restaurant management where my pay has gone from twice what the high school kids make to 20% more than what they make proves that)
* Refusing to attempt to try something new to fix our public schools (ie, vouchers) because their union backers are against it.
* Patty Murray going to another country (Vancouver to be specific) to say that bin Laden was a hero for "out in these countries for decades, building schools, building roads, building infrastructure, building day-care facilities, building health-care facilities, and the people are extremely grateful. We haven't done that." Shortly after 9/11
* Free abortions for any woman and no parental consent required even for a 12 year old girl.
* "Iraq is Vietnam, we need to leave now" which would leave the Iraqi government unable to control it's state, leaving it to be taken over by the radicals, thus turning it into Vietnam.
* All men are out to get all women and all white folks are out to stick it to every minority.
* Complete disregard for the Second and Tenth Amendments
* The US Supreme Court's liberals deciding cases based on foreign law while ignoring our Constitution, the Kelo case saying that private property can be seized and given to another private entity because they will generate more taxes than the exiting property, etc
* Forcing every working American into a doomed ponzi scheme and absolute refusal to do anything to fix it even though doom is staring us in the face
* Cut the military funding because nobody would attack us (ignoring that nobody attacks us because of our military)
* Giving any illegal alien more rights to college access than any American citizen living outside of California
* Refusing to secure our one person, one vote system by requiring identification to be shown at the time of voting, even if the identification is to be provided for free
* Cindy Sheehan going around ranting and raving about how great guys like Hugo Chavez, Fidel, etc are
* Blame America for the terrorist attacks because we got involved with foreign countries while at the same time blaming the US for not doing enough for foreign countries.
* Get rid of all aspects of religion in our public social lives, ignoring a part of their favorite Amendment of all saying that Congress shall make no law prohibiting the free exercise of religion.
I could probably go on for hours...
BTW, about some of the other things you said, such as "Dems have been moving to the center in decades after they broke the back of segregation." You'll note that Robert Byrd (D-KKK) is sitting in the Senate and is still one of the darlings of the left. The democrats, then led by LBJ, filibustered the 1960 Civil Rights Act. Al Gore's dad voted against it. The south, which was the primary area to fight against it, was dominated by democrats and they were the ones enforcing Jim Crow laws. The 1964 act which prevented discrimination on the basis of race (dem vote 61% for, 39% against compared to rep at 80% for, 20% against).
Bill Clinton was by no means a centrist... he is a very liberal guy. That said, he was a very politically saavy guy and knew that he couldn't show his true colors or else he'd lose support for his 96 re-election and later his impeachment trial so he let the public perceive that he was a centrist. Lets not forget that he vetoed welfare
Yeah, like your island would/would have retain/retained its independence for a minute without our support.
I'm not asking for a thank-you -- just grow a backbone. Clue in: the terrorists would have eventually blown up Bali because your women don't wear burkas. Thankfully your government is smart enough to understand the importance of the war in Iraq and, such as it has, supported it.
You are right. Just bury your head in your island's soil and hope everything will be ok. I'm serious -- that is an option for you.
The US was attacked by terrorists. Historically, we don't get attacked by terrorists very often and guess what -- we don't like it. The rest of the world has become accustomed to terrorism -- learned to live with it. I guarantee we will never be content with frequent terrorism. How you can be is beyond me, but hey -- enjoy your outback. Alternatively, you can do something about it. Like Americans do.
Ok, question and doubt the government, it is your duty to do so as a citizen. Now, if a person that has sworn to do as much damage to the United States, whether it kills or harms innocent people or not, is interviewed by the Red Cross, we should take any claim or accusation he makes as absolute truth. We could have treated him like a VIP from the time we picked him up to the time he talked to a reporter. He would still make claims that he was abused and tortured. Not only would it embarass the United States, it would bolster his reputation, that he was tortured and beaten and was not broken.
These people are criminals, they are not enemy soldiers. Are military should either kill them on the battle field, or hand them over to the CIA. And the CIA must be able to do whatever it takes to get information out of these people. But, denying a person food or sleep, or peace and quiet, is not torture. Dunking someone's head under water is not torture either. It just breaks down his defenses, it stresses his resolve until he cooperates. It would serve nobody to kill a terrorist. Hell, this is the same thing the military does when training Navy Seals or Special Forces, they push the limits until it is reached.
The entire argument that torture is not a reliable means to garner good intelligence is a false claim. There are three reasons to torture a person. The first is for pure punishment or sadistic enjoyment, just like Sadam's offspring enjoyed. The second is to receive a false confession to allow a crime to be pinned on someone. I agree confession to a crime under torture is not reliable. Someone will admit to having done anything to avoid continued pain. The third is to gather intelligence, the reason we would torture a terrorist. Our CIA interrogators are not trying to get someone to admit that they are a terrorist. They are trying to get critical and actionable information. Any information given by a person being interrogated can be confirmed or checked against other known information. If the information does not check out, they will continue the interrogation. The terrorist will soon realize that he better start telling the truth, if he wants the treatment to end. If we are forced to treat them as an enemy combatant, a standard our military has stuck to in any war we have been in, we can do nothing but ask him questions, maybe raise our voice when we do, and that is all that can be done. For these guys that would be a vacation. Instead of starving, fearing every minute that they could be blown to a million pieces, hiding out in basements and caves, no bathing or clean clothes, they will be fed three times a day, regular shower and clean clothes, no fear of anything, recreation and socialization.
That is absurd. How about we give our soldiers cap guns and load our bombers with water balloons. That would ensure our defeat. All of the people that question taking this struggle with terrorism seriously are consciously or unconsciously wanting the United States to lose. It is a disease, like alcoholism and drug addiction, self-destructive behavior driven by self-loathing.
By the way, the guy that originally came up with the idea of using planes to crash into building is in jail, and his uncle was captured in Pakistan and has been in our custody. Osama is the figurehead, a big funny looking mascot. Ahmed Shah Massoud said he was a poser, and he was right. He is a victim of his own delusional grandeur. He will get what is coming to him. The worst thing that could happen is to verifiably kill Bin Laden. Most of America would take a collective sigh of relief and think that the war was over. But trust me, the fight will not be over when he is dead.
- Bush supporters are ashamed of voting for Bush?
- Bush supporters aren't smart enough to fill in the poll information?
- Bush supporters don't waste their time filling out information for the liberal mainstream media?
- Bush supporters don't carry writing utensils because they're carrying too many handguns?
I think that statement is interesting. "Kerry supporters were more likely to participate and complete an exit poll." Now how did they figure that out? They ask 100 people, "Who did you vote for?" 49 said "Kerry", 25 said "Bush" and, and 26 said "Fuck you" which means they voted for Bush?I'm just being silly. Never mind...
If there was something wrong with the election, the NY Times would have found it. Just read the editorials, There is no love for George Bush. They expose the NSA wiretapping and they would love to expose this. Rolling Stones breaking this has the same value as Playboy or Vanity Fair doing it. I am democrat and I absolutely loathe the current administration. But, the past is the past and I am looking forward to 2006. If Republicans take both Houses, the illegals can have this country because I am moving to China. One of two facts will be apparent- Americans are truly idiotic or someone has a stranglehold on power and it ain't I.
You don't have to be smart to use a Mac, you just have to be smart enough to buy one
If someone was to post a comment like this, it would be marked as flamebait. This story has nothing to do with science, technology, or any of the other things slashdot talks about. You might be able to argue relevance with electronic voting hacking or something. Truthfully, people need to stop pulling stories that are two years old out of the trash and trying to rehash them.
This is just like the Democrats in every other aspect in life - someone cheated them, they never fail. Its like they do to kids these days - every one of 100 contestants gets a trophy even though 99 lost.
Oh no, call the waaahmbulance. Somebody technically violated an obsolete 100 year old treaty, and some terrorists may have been treated harshly. Waaah, waah.
I don't remember anyone on the left wetting their lace underwear when US captives were having their heads sawed off by Al-queada members on El-Jizz-Earache TV.
If someone produced footage of the CIA burning the terrorists b@lls off with a blowtorch in Gitmo prison, my response would be, can't they turn the flames up a little higher.
The only thing I regret about Iraq is that brave American soldiers are dying when we have all these perfectly good NUKEs going to waste.
If this country wasn't paralyzed by limp-wristed disloyal democraps, we would have bombed Iraq and Iran into glowing craters by now, and those towel-headed goat f@ckers left in fudge-Pakistan would be hiding in their caves for the next fifty years.
PEACE THROUGH SUPERIOR FIREPOWER!
How does an editorial hitpiece and a link to a poorly-written Wikipedia entry wind up on the front page of Slashdot? I wish Pudge were around to put out the smackdown.
Funny you say that. The US is one of the only countries in the world where you can loose the right to vote if you are convicted of a crime and happen to be black.
Actually, the Bali terrorist list a boatload of reasons for their violence, one of which was Australian interefernce in East Timor. Did America force you into that. If you seriously believe that the sole reason you were attacked is because of your relationship with America, then your the idiot. Insert head back in sand.
What exactly is it Bush is supposed to have lied about? You are aware, I hope, that the original "Bush lie", the Nigerian uranium, turned out to be 100% true.

One of their agenda items is to remove any means for an individual to defend or arm themselves.
Don't mean to troll but since I've read that article a few monthes ago, seeing that on the front page of Slashdot gives it a Digg-esque feel.
You just got troll'd!
