Hezbollah Hacked Israeli Military Radio
florescent_beige writes, "Newsday is reporting that Hezbollah was able to monitor secure Israeli military communications, perhaps using technology supplied by Iran, during the recent Lebanon war. A former Israeli general, speaking anonymously, called the results 'disastrous' for Israel. The story reports that an anonymous Lebanese source said that Hezbollah might have taken advantage of Israeli soldiers' mistakes in following secure radio procedures. The radio gear uses frequency hopping and encryption." The article identifies the Israeli communications equipment as the US-designed Single Channel Ground and Airborne Radio System.

Hezbollah used 4 different kinds of anti tank munitions, 3 of which are Russian surplus circa 1990. Piles of that stuff laying around all over the world. And since the Soviet Union vanished, who knows where they all are. Easy enough for a few thousand rounds to vanish & pop up anywhere somebody has a checkbook out. No need to even call the Russian Mafia. The 4th type, the MILAN, could have been bought on the open market; Hezbollah is basically the 'home guard' of southern Lebanon, and recognised as such.
Personally, I'd like to see the statistics on the percentage of tanks destroyed in each unit as it came across the border, say Y percent of X tanks. Bet it's less than 50%.
Title of TFA says "Technology likely supplied by Iran allowed guerrillas to stop Israeli tank assaults", but nowhere in the article itself do they mention Iran. They DO, however, mention Syria. My conclusion here is 'sheep dip'.
If you're unfamiliar with the term, the following scenario can help:
Take one every day average on the ground intelligence grunt.
Have him go be very visible sucking up to the cause you want to infiltrate, be it the Communist Party, the Greens, the AARP, whoever. Let him get arrested and booked for incidents supporting said cause, for instance, engaging in street brawls against the Fascists, the oil companies, the Cub Scouts, whoever your target group's enemies are. This further establishes his credibility in the organisation you wish to infiltrate. Repeat until your guy is inserted at a level where you can get valuable intelligence from him. Remember, your goal is to make a fake 'True Believer' in order to gain access to your target group's leadership and decision making processes.
To mention Iran in just the title and then go on about the article is a sheep dip in that, a lot of people will just scan the headlines & maybe the first paragraph, then get on with their lives. By constantly placing Iran with any 'evil deeds' done worldwide, one paves the way for, dare I say it? Invasion?
Contrary to popular belief, 'Arab terrorism' doesn't exist in a vacuum. Much is said about Hezbollah kidnapping two Israeli soldiers, but nothing is mentioned as to what the act could be a reprisal to. Again, more sheep dip designed to foster the opinion that Arabs are loose cannons that need to be spiked.
As for Israeli losses in southern Lebanon, keep in mind Hezbollah had the 'home team advantage' in that they knew every square inch of the territory, while the Israelis haddn't been there in years. That alone would increase Israeli losses and cut Hezbollah losses.
