Vista RC1 Build 5728 Publicly Released

Although apparently intended for the TAP and Technical Beta Testers....it is available for download to the public via this Microsoft public download page for Vista 5728. There is a link on that page as well for direct download of the latest 64-bit flavor of that version as well. An Ars Technica post also has some background info on the new release. Techweb is reporting that Microsoft is specifically asking for feedback on this release, so make sure and let them know what you think."
Excuse me while I wet wet my pants. Sure, release candidates 1 through 5727 were pretty boring, but now that #5728 is here, that's an exciting breakthrough that is surely worthy of front-page news!

I think its is a really crappy copy of Mac OSX that has already been subject to viruses and malware. This essentially means that it is just Windows xp SP3 without the playschool look. If you want truly great hardware and the ability to run any OS you want, buy a Mac and forget this bloated, glitchy, virus-infested copy. Mac 5 years and still no viruses! Windows 5 years and 115,000 viruses and counting!

Its certainly not any version of Windows, with that wonderful "surf the net, get your patches automatically ... oops, you're already owned before you have a chance to install the first patch" user experience ...
It can't be Microsoft Office, which confuses the heck out of most people when doing even simple tasks ... and leaks all your edits, private annotations, revision history, etc., as well as piggybacking macro viruses ...
It can't be Outlook ... "where am I going to send your files today"
Internet Explorer, with the "sploit of the day?" Nah.
The simple fact is that if all a person is using is those 4 pieces of software, replacing them with linux, openoffice, thunderbird and firefox is doing them a favour.
Heck, someone even came out with a replacement for Clippy that runs under linux. http://vigor.sourceforge.net/screenshots/ Is it cheesy? Yes. That's the whole point.
It offers nothing, is closed and DRM-infested. The user experience is no better than before.

How many people have had to buy a new retail license because their original one that came pre-installed is lost (esp. for laptops) ?
It's not that small a group - and this will snare a lot of legit users. Look at the 15% - 20% false positives "you have a pirated OS" that WGA was giving ...
As for Joe Sixpack trying out beta systems - if he's been running XP prior to SP2, he's been running beta software.
Do not download and run this 2GB file. It will hack your existing OS image, adding an automatic backdoor porn server, through which Microsoft corporation will be able to see through your credit card numbers and if the previous version on windows on your computer is authentic and what were the last things you searched in google and porn sites you visited!!!
Please wait until Vista is officially released and then go download it from some pirate in taiwan.
They wrote a Word document called ChangeLog.txt and it's corrupt? Perhaps they should rename the file to ChangeLog.doc. I don't think Windows is smart enough yet to work out the type of a file from its type, rather than its name.
