First Super Close-Up Pictures of Mars
Alien54 writes "The most powerful camera ever to orbit Mars will get its first close look at the Red Planet on Friday. The High-Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) camera flying aboard NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) will relay its first low-altitude images to scientists at The University of Arizona beginning September 29. User-friendly web tools will be available to both the science community and the public to view/analyze HiRISE images and to submit observation requests. Processed images will be released soon after acquisition to allow everyone to share in the scientific discovery process. By combining very high resolution and signal-to-noise ratio with a large swath width, it is possible to for images to be collected on scales down to 1 meter."
As if millions of /.ers suddenly started hitting refresh every other second.
I can see my house from here!
:-)
It's red and pock-marked. Like the faces of Slashbots surfing for pr0n.
A man walks into a bar. On Mars.
Thank god we don't have hi-res pictures of Uranus.
This will be pretty cool, but I am anxious to see what these pictures will be used for. We already have some pretty pictures from ESA's satellites, and we have robots on the ground (had, I suppose) that can take REALLY CLOSE UP pictures. Are we surveying the area looking for good places to land? Good spots for Mars-bases? Cruising for Martian chicks?
Anybody but a hairsplitting idiot would fail to grasp the fact that I regarded it as self evident that Earth was excluded when I said
Actually, I think even a hairsplitting idiot would fail to grasp that fact.
Nitpicking & trolling does not make you intelligent, you insolent twit. I wish I had mod points to waste today to flag you as the troll you are. Most other /. readers fully understood the obviousness of his post - the point that you've decided to attack. Go get your attention-deficit stroked elsewhere, asshole.
My first comment was a humorous observation on his post, nothing more. It wasn't an "attack" or anything of the sort. Sheesh, it even had a smiley! My next comment was a defence of my original post (because apparently the point of my post went right over his head).
And BTW: calling others "insolent twit", "troll" and "asshole" does not make you one bit smarter, mister-man!
