PS3 Pre-Orders Came and Went
Warlock7 writes "Well, it's official. The pre-orders have begun ... and mostly ended. I just got mine ordered and four hours later there are already units on eBay. Some acutions have already gone north of $1000 USD. The guys at
EBGames told me that the most units going to any one store was 36 and that there were an average of 8 units being distributed to each store. The one I went to reported that they were going to be getting a total of 16 units. They waited this long to take pre-orders because they wanted to be sure that they weren't going to get burned like they did for the XBox 360 launch." The reports from across the internets are varied, with long lines netting nothing for some, and others reaping the sweet rewards.
Oh, wait, it's an overpriced PS3 with DRM Blu-Ray.
Never mind. Wasn't going to even think about those until the price dropped to $250 US anyways.
Besides, have you noticed Microsoft is pushing Japanese games for the 360? Between that and the Wii the only "demand" for PS3 is due to the artificial shortage created when they decreased the number of units shipped to one-quarter of the firm demand levels.
I'll be happily playing Mario Galaxy, thanks.

It's time to face facts. Gaming is dead.
Consider the evidence. The XBox 360 is a joke: the console's been out for a year now and there are three good games for it. The PS3 is an overpriced disaster with a blu-ray drive nobody needs. The Wii is an overhyped disaster with an unusable controller. The whole next-gen is effectively a writeoff.
PC gaming is no better off. No company wants to publish PC games anymore for fear of "pirates". MMORPG's quickly become boring exercises in grinding (unless you're an addict, in which case they become compulsive exercises in grinding), and spreadsheet games like Civ are too complex for their own good.
And what does the future have to offer? Not much. Most publishers are now chasing the "casual gaming" market, churning out puzzle games (all of them clones of the same basic paradigm) for entertaining grandma. The other hot trend is downloadable "episodic content" so everyone can pay for the same game six times. As for "indie gaming", aka Division I-AA versions of the same crap the big publishers are putting out, the less said about that, the better.
Gaming is over. Gaming is dead. The only real sport to be found through a computer nowadays is trolling message boards.
then why were all the n00bz camped out for the PS3 this week?
Are they buying a PS3, reselling it for profit, and using the cash to pick up a Wii with a killer load of titles?
Or don't they know the OS still has bugs in it, according to the latest slashdot news?

Sure.
Unless, that is the kids are wanting to play it in a room with sunlight, or fluorescent or halogen lighting.
Or they want to play any decent game other than Zelda's Revenge XXVI for that matter.
