How Warcraft Really Does Wreck Lives
An anonymous reader writes "There's a great blog post about how World of Warcraft can ruin lives, it's written by a person that was for a long time a member of the largest council on what is now one of the oldest guilds in the world." This is a story that is very familiar to a lot of folks. I know people who are actively wrecking their lives and risking their jobs by playing too much of a video game.
No kidding.
Wah wah. I have minimal self-control and little ability to focus my attention on needs and social responsibilities rather than my own selfish desires.
People who get "hooked" and "ruined" on WoW are simply suffering from a problem called "irresponsibility". They may call it a "disease" but the reason that no medicine exists to "cure" it is that nobody has found a way yet to cure people of uselessness.
WoW players who complain that WoW ruins their life may in fact be suffering some sort of actual problem, but WoW didn't cause it, WoW only provided an avenue for it to manifest, and the ruination came from a refusal of all parties to actually address the underlying issues. Continuing to blame the game after the fact is just a continuation of this denial, and I find it rather idiotic and more than just a tad pathetic.
I don't know if I'm supposed to feel some sort of compassion for these people, but I don't, I only feel scorn for them, and they deserve every bit of it for their constant refusal to take a little initiative in solving the actual problems that are harming them.
