Battlestar Galactica 'Webisodes' Conflict Brewing

nebaz writes "MSNBC has an article saying that there is tension between NBC and Ron Moore and team about the royalties on the 'Webisodes' of Battlestar Galactica. The episodes have been seized by NBC, balking at Ron Moore's refusal to produce any more episodes, due to compensation issues."

What's your justification for downloading the TV episodes?

There are other obvious problems with this new season's shows. Apparently they got tired of spending so much money on computer graphics, so almost all of the new shows are set in a muddy field, with some tents and some junk. It's turned into a freaking soap opera about mommies and babies. Fuck that shit, I want to see some nuclear explosions in space!

You mean it got even worse? I stopped watching the show pretty quickly because I was disgusted by them constantly doing stupid stuff like that. It seemed apparent from the start to me that the sci fi aspects of the show were going to be mostly plot devices and they'd avoid battlestars real subject matter. The whole "human" psylon thing to avoid the cost of fancy robot graphics was the clincher in the end for me.

Battlestar Iraqtica has gotten so ridiculous lately I really don't have reason to watch any more, on the web or on television. Each week I am given a parallel between the cylons and U.S. and am supposed to equate U.S. behavior in Iraq with nazi-like behavior by the cylons. Satire is one thing but outright deception is quite another.

I am sure there are excellent writers on the show as I have thoroughly enjoyed it for 2 years, but whomever they are allowing to inject politics into season 3 should be fired. Whomever decided they should move the plotline to New Caprica should be fired.

The show is already losing ratings because it stepped away from its key formula of "running in space," and I am just about done watching this drivel myself.

Prediction: It finishes this season and one half of another...

"I don't think they intend the occupation of New Caprica to be like Iraq, with the Cylons as the US. If you see that parallel, perhaps it is more in you than in the show."

I completely disagree with your assessment of the show and myself.

A weak defense of satire has always been, "Oh you're reading into it too much. If you think that then it is because you fear that it is true, and read that truth into everything!" What, you think Gulliver's travels is really about a guy who visits a land of giants and tiny people? lol

The parallels to Iraq are clear and concise. First there is the basic insurgency and occupation. Then there are the insurgents, called "insurgents", who use suicide bombing as a tactic of resistance. Then there are the collaborators, just like the collaborators in Iraq, who must decide who to serve. Following that, there are the comments from the cylons about being stretched thin, and being greeted with flowers by the humans.

Basically, if Tigh is supposed to be Osama then what does that make the cylons? The U.S. of course.

Yes, there have been other wars with occupations, but none of them are currently happening. Yes, the parallel to modern day events is backwards but it is that reversal that makes the satire dangerous. The insurgents in Iraq are the force against humanity and the U.S. trying to instill a democracy, but the false portrayal of the events in the Battlestar Iraqtica world is an attempt at manipulation. Essentially, the cylons are the draconian U.S. occupiers and the humans are the Iraqis just trying to get their freedom back... sheesh.
