Boy Scouts Introduce Merit Badge For Not Pirating

The_Slaughter writes "The MPAA has recruited the boy scouts of America to do their dirty work. Scouts will now be able to learn a merit badge for anti-piracy related activities, including creating public service announcements urging others not to steal movies or music. No word yet on if that includes helping the MPAA file lawsuits against 80-year-old grandmothers."

I made it to Star Scout when I turned 16, which was the time I quit going to meetings and got licensed to go crusing independantly without regard to any civic or social duty. Yeah, that's how it can be said.

But anyway, I find that of everything I learned in the Scouts, Pioneering has remained the most useful in every day life.

Something metal broke and you don't have a welder but do have some rope? Fix it now!

Going to Burning Man and hate the complexities and weight of bolts, reinforcement bars, and other machines for pre-fab structures designed to hold up under weight or stress? Wood and rope is all you really need.

Got a boat? Why get icky with tar and other pitch goo just to keep your lines from fraying. Lash the babies. Seems to last longer, too.

I literally could go on and on about all the instances where the "lashing and knot tying" merit badge saved the day when all the hi-tech engineering either came up short, weren't readily available, or logistically impossible.

I'm jus' agreeing that this new merit badge seems absolutely worthless. Even without comparison.
