An anonymous reader writes "Silicon.com's Encyclopedia of Wireless Technology takes a stab at untangling the assorted standards associated with wi-fi — including potted explanations of the likes of Zigbee, UMTS, HSDPA and WiMax." From the article: "Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS), also called W-CDMA, is one of the 3G mobile standards jockeying for position in Europe. First introduced into the UK by 3 in 2003, it is sometimes called 3GSM as it is a 3G tech designed to replace GSM. UMTS has the potential to support 11Mbps data transfer rates and can be used for things like mobile videoconferencing."

This seems to be a marketing buzzword collection(only 26 one for each letter harrrr) and not an "Encyclopedia".
Y is for Yucca because plants distort wifi signal.
Thats simply in there because they could find a buzzword in the wifi realm that starts with Y.
A is for Analog (whew that was easy)
B is for um...battery, used to power many portable wireless devices.
C is for errr.. OH OH yeah: Cell phone, which is a wireless device
D is for Digital (see also: A)
E is for Electromagnetic Spectrum
F is for Frequency
G is for hmmm, I dunno.. maybe 802.11g
H is for Ham Radio (yay!)
I is for uhhh, ok, we'll skip that and come back later
J is for Jack...the thing you plug wireless plugs into.
K is for errr...we'll skip that one also
L is for aaaaahhh...skip it too
M is for Mobile (another term for C=Cell phone)
N is for 802.11n
O is for Omega Race (nothing to do with wireless, it was just my fav. video game)

Q is for Quiet
R is for Radio
S is for Signal
T is for TDMA
U is for University, where there are lots of cell phone users
V is for Vagina (I might as well throw in a naughty word since I'm getting a -1 Troll for this post anyway)
W is for Wireless
X is for Xtra options on your cell phone

Seriously though, that's an encyclopedia? Neither ZigBee nor WiMax nor Bluetooth "articles" mentioned IEEE. Better opt for a real encyclopedia and relabel this as a bunch of marketing abstracts.

If you really need such a resource, the two below are decent examples:
Hello? EVDO? They cover W-CDMA, which has seen minimal use, but not EV-DO, which is carried by Sprint Nextel and all the networks that piggyback on them like Embarq and Verizon, the 2nd and third largest providers in the US, along with all these others? Cingular is pretty much the only carrier I know of that uses W-CDMA, and that's due to some poor planning by AT&T with DoCoMo or something. Even though Cingular is the largest in the US, their 58 million users pale in comparison the the other two's 100+million combined. Not to mention, as numerous Sprint ads will point out, EVDO provides faster speeds when it comes to implementation (not theory, though: see USB speeds). So, how about a revision here?
