Intel Discrete Graphics Chips Confirmed

Arun Demeure writes "There have been rumors of Intel's re-entry into discrete graphics for months. Now Beyond3D reports that Intel has copped to the project on their own site. They describe it as a 'many-core' architecture aimed at 'high-end client platforms,' but also extending to other market segments in the future, with 'plans for accelerated CPU integration.' This might also encourage others to follow Intel's strategy of open-sourcing their Linux drivers. So, better watch out NVIDIA and AMD/ATI — there's new competition on the horizon."

lol 5700.... You could buy a better card than that piece of junk for $80.

And you didn't specifically say "open source," you said "especially open source." That implies a secondary importance to it, that you would buy it without open source if you had to.

Besides, what's so damn important that your graphics card drivers need to be open source? It's not like you pay for them, or can't tweak the performance if it's closed source. :/

you should read a few comments up, about the texture compression thing. It's impossible to write open source drivers that do many of today's graphics features unless you coded them all yourself form scratch. This is Intel we're talking about, they're hardly likely to invest millions of dollars and reinvent the past 15 years of graphics drivers just so some geek can soil himself over it being "open source."

That's funny, your mom asked me the same thing as I was writing "Your-a-peon" in semen on her flabby pancake tits after she rubbing me off. I just smacked the bitch and told her to OMFGSTFU!!!1111ONE
