Sony's Phil Harrison To Give GDC Speech
Gamasutra reports that SCE's Worldwide Studios President Phil Harrison will be giving an important speech at the Game Developer's Conference in March. The speech is said to center around what Harrison is calling 'the third age of game development', which he claims is marked by the interconnectedness of gaming communities and developers. The speech will also detail what the concept of 'always on' can mean for gaming from Sony's unique perspective in the gaming market. Along with the Keynote from Shigeru Miyamoto, this year's GDC is sure to be an interesting one.
I read an article about Phil Harrison a couple of months ago. Born to a middle-class family in Britian, he moved to the USA to attend college, and was mistakenly drafted into the military.
Harrison chose to join up rather than return to Britain, because he wanted to make his fortune in America. He was sent to Vietnam, volunteered for Military Police duty, and ended up a decorated combat veteran.
After he got out of the military (I forget which branch), Harrison got a job AT CBS. There he worked his way up from a clerical position to network executive, where he was instrumental in taking CBS from last place to first place in prime-time ratings. Now he works at Sony, gets paid a gazillion dollars, and lives like a prince.
None of which changes the fact that the PS3 launch has totally gone to shit. Which just goes to show, even he most formidable of people are capable of colossal fuckups once in a while.
