You Too Can Be An Amazon Bestseller
Steve1960 writes "For $10,000 to $15,000, you, too, can be a best-selling author — on Amazon.com. Here's a cautionary tale on how easy it is to game Amazon's sales ranking numbers, and why authors who pay for this might be wasting their money. 'The targeted marketing campaigns contribute volatility to sales-ranking numbers that are inherently unstable. Outside the top 1% or so of books, few sell multiple copies a day, so little separates books with rankings tens of thousands, or even hundreds of thousands, apart. Morris Rosenthal, an author and publisher based in Springfield, Mass., who has studied the Amazon charts, says a day without a sale can send a book ranked 10,000 to as low as 50,000.'"

Whenever I go to Amazon to buy something, which I do frequently because the service is decent, and I've been doing a lot of shopping lately thanks to my free Amazon Prime trial, I always stay WAY clear of people who actually sell on Amazon.. In other words, I buy directly from Amazon all the time.. If I wanted to deal with 2-bit power sellers, then I'd take my chances and gamble with someone that has a pseudo reputation on eBay.. I don't know, I guess the idea is cool and all, but the only reason I go to Amazon in the first place, is to deal strictly with a big ass corporate company that will guarantee the delivery of my product and provide proper tracking information.. and plus, none of those 3rd parties offer free shipping via Amazon Prime ;D that is handy..
