linumax writes "The most monitored nation of the world is getting an interesting new service. According to a BBC News story, "Talking" CCTV cameras that tell off people dropping litter or committing anti-social behaviour are to be extended to 20 areas across England. They are already used in Middlesbrough where people seen misbehaving can be told to stop via a loudspeaker, controlled by control centre staff."

If you think owning a Mac is cool, GTFO.
If you think Steve jobs is hip and cool, GTFO.
If you think Macs aren't gay, GTFO.
If OsX is a real Unix operating system, GTFO.

This is really the crux of the issue; cameras in public places, monitoring public places.

The camera in this context is really just an improvement on the cop walking a beat. Yes, it's impersonal, and yes, it reminds some of "1984", but a public police camera monitoring a public space is a far cry from a brutal totalitarian regime. A fictional one no less.
