Xbox Spring Update To Offer Codecs, MSN Messenger
adachan writes "It seems that Microsoft has decided to add Xvid playback into the upcoming Spring Xbox 360 dashboard update. Xbox.com has a list of all the upcoming enhancements to the dash. The playback of video using H.264 and mpeg4 codecs seems to be the biggest news for those using the system as a media extender. If this is indeed true, my Xbox Media Center will be used less and less." Update: 04/09 17:29 GMT by Z : MSN Messenger is kinda interesting as well. Several sites are reporting that instant messenging is being added to the Xbox Live experience, with a USB keyboard controller attachment to be offered sometime in the near future.
A keyboard, eh? Today it's for instant messaging. Tomorrow they'll add email and web browsing ... eventually, MS Office.
... the volume of spam which will be delivered by Xbox botnets will be overwhelming.
Microsoft is so set in their ways, they won't be able to resist turning this thing into a full-fledged PC.
And once that happens (maybe even before), all of the ugly problems of Windows will find their way into the Xbox. Worms, viruses, spyware, the whole kit & caboodle.
Brace yourselves, folks

How about using your brain instead of making pretty links in your post? This isnt a wikipedia article, your know?
XVid is just an implementaion of mpeg4, just like divx.
Thats the reason why the same decoder will happily decode bitstream from both sources.
And guess what? The decoder can be a totally different implementation from either of them.
geezz. People today. To dumb to piss, but "its GPL!!!!11"
