ScummVM Ported to Nintendo Gamecube/Wii
Croakyvoice writes "Rodolfo Portillo has released a port of ScummVM
for the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo Gamecube. ScummVM is a program which allows
you to run certain classic graphical point-and-click adventure games like Simon
the Sorcerer, Broken Sword and Flight of the Amazon Queen. You will have to use
SD
Load to run this on your console." No offense to Broken Sword, but it's all about Day of the Tentacle for me. Update: 04/10 16:45 GMT by Z : Technically, this is a GameCube port. The Wii's backwards compatibility allows it to work there anyway, but it's worth clarifying.
Since it's GCN homebrew, you can't use the Wii hardware, which means no pointer support (which would be the only reason I would want it). Calling it Wii homebrew when it runs in Gamecube mode is just wrong
"I think an etch-a-sketch with an ethernet port would beat IE7 in web standards compliance."
I'm not familiar with scumm, this emulator can allow you to play Day of the Tentacle on the Wii? I cannot RTFA at work. I'll make sure to check this out when I get home and try it right away. This also reminds me that I hope the Wii VM will get "Maniac Mansion" ported sooner than later! That's worth the nostalgia value alone.
Cheers,
Fozzy

They keep saying 'Wii homebrew' but it's not. It's GameCube homebrew, which the Wii will play because it's backwards compatible. It's kind of like taping a VCR to a DVD player and claiming your DVD player plays VHS tapes. From all I can see, you won't get a bit extra from the Wii's added power and it will be identical to just using a GameCube.

If the makers of Myst aren't thinking about a Wii port, they're nuts.
However, the "realtime FPS" style Myst shouldn't be what they're thinking about. I don't think, anyway.
Education is the silver bullet.
This is Gamecube homebrew, not Wii homebrew. The Wii is simply backwards-compatible.

Hi, I'm selling these fine leather Wiimote covers.
You rebel scum
And why was Monkey Island not mentioned in the main post? For shame!
Well, just go take a look at the ScummVM downloads page, where you can see all the ports of ScummVM available. I'll leave it up to you to guess which one they ported it from, but PS3 isn't even on that list.
Indeed! I would think that Day of the Tentacle, Monkey Island, and Sam and Max Hit the Road would be all that people need to jump at this!
Sam and Max would be a big magnet for this now that the duo is back in the forefront of gaming thanks to TellTale Games. Those who were not around to experience the original game that started it all can go back and play what we've been talking about for over a decade!
The Overrated mod is for reversing inappropriate, positive mods, not for voicing disagreement with a post.
How about you bring ScummVM to the Virtual Console line-up? I know its not really a console, but there's no denying that there's a *ton* of popular games just waiting to be revisited, and you've got the perfect input device to do so.
Now if I could just finish Twilight Princess, damn that game is long...

Given that ScummVM is 2d only, for now, it should run fine in PS3 Linux... Mouse is a must that way however. I personally like most running it on a sharp zaurus or on the Nintendo DS, ScummVM or generally point and click adventures on a portable computer with stylus input is a match made in heaven. The DS port especially has the nifty feature of using the second screen for a zoom like function which works really well with videos.
You're playing Day of the Tentacle on ScummVM, what do you care about the Wii's added power? Why not go play Asteroids on the PS3 and complain it doesn't use all fifty-seven CPUs?
Now, the fact that it won't use the Wiimote as a pointer, that's disappointing. Wii would be perfect for the old LucasArts adventures just because of that.

Nor is the port to iPod linux, but it works...

Damn, now if the sound only works properly...
