Nintendo's Iwata Confirms Big Games This Year
1up has comments from Nintendo's President Satoru Iwata, as he spoke to investors earlier this week. When asked about the possibility of hardcore games coming to the Wii before the end of 2007, Nintendo's president assured gamers and moneymen that Mario and Metroid are coming this year. "It will be from around the end of this summer to the end of this year. We will then launch a new title of Super Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption although the last one is primarily for the [American and European] markets. These will be the key titles for the period ranging from the summer until the holiday sales season of this year, and I think we will be able to cater to the specific needs you mentioned."
Pretty much everyone I know is bored with their Wii. It was fun at first with Zelda and everyone was telling themselves who incredible it was to aim with the wiimote. And then there were the holidays where everyone was around and the Wii was very cool to play in groups. Then the holidays were over and you pretty much were just stuck with yourself and your Wii. Nintendo totally dropped the ball on online play. And even though so many people claimed they didn't care about graphics the games so far have been in many ways worse than GameCube level.
Also the wiimote while cool for many things just isn't the revolutionary leap in gaming that we had all hoped for after seeing it last year at E3. Pretty much aiming has been moved from your thumb to your wrist and button presses have been replaced with a waggle.
A friend of mine just got into the PS3 Home beta and he has been telling me about it and other friends are getting ready for the Halo 3 beta. I don't think I'm going to wait around all year long for a few big name GameCube titles with some waggle tacked on. I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way, I keep seeing more and more stories from other Wii owners talking about their Wiis gathering dust and haven't touched it in weeks. I think I finally gave up on the console when I caught myself anticipating the next release of VC titles and not playing revolutionary games not possible on other consoles like I thought I would be after deciding to get a Wii.
