Thousands of ICQ Numbers Deleted

BondGamer writes "Many ICQ users woke up and found their ICQ numbers were no longer working. There is a topic on the ICQ support with more than 1,500 replies. There are pages upon pages of other topics asking what happened. As of yet, there has been no official response from AOL about what has happened."

Or you can just tell them to use MSN like everyone else is, and the loners won't have to sit around on ICQ waiting for their number to get deleted any more. I mean seriously, the people still using ICQ must be _desperate_ to avoid change. Looks like AOL's making up your minds for you!

Probably has to do with Homeland Security Agency and GWB.

They couldn't easily authenticate or determine who had what ICQ numbers. So the easy fix is to wipe out old associations, make it look like an accident and then force everyone to start all over.

Now that the TSA's new supersnoop infrastructure is in place it will be easier to trace ICQ usage. And to misquote Carl Sagan, bring "billions and billions of terrorists and p*****iles" to justice.
