High Paying Jobs in Math and Science?
An anonymous reader asks: "Where are the high paying jobs for those who are good in math and science? I've heard about math and science shortages for almost two decades now, and I was wondering what high salary/high demand jobs have resulted from these shortages. Most science majors I know actually make less than teachers (in Texas teachers make $38-40K to start for nine months of work). In terms of money, what career would you pursue coming out of college right now with a math or science degree?"
...there has arisen such a huge blue collar anti illegal immigrant backlash. It's because *we don't want to be forced to live like that to compete*. We don't want to have to work three jobs and near a dozen people to a small house! We don't WANT to live in the "developing world". Around where I live, you can't touch a cheap rent anymore with a blue collar job, you need 2-3 incomes *precisely* because of all the illegals coming in and putting such a huge pressure on the lower cost housing situation. And this is new, it isn't something that gradually happened over 50 years, nope, try 2-3 years! And you example is mild, I can go around my county and point at very small singlewides that have a dozen illegals in them, frikken bunkbeds and couches on every wall. The slumlords love it! The cheapass contractors love it! And they aren't assimilating, nope again, they DEMAND their culture and language at every opportunity or it's "racist". And how about property taxes? What do you tell old geezers on fixed incomes when their taxes get so high because of all the new schools "necessary" to house the illegals kids that property taxes have to TRIPLE in short time frames? What do you tell a "born here" family once the mom and dad are both working, yet can't pay the bills? Tough luck? they need to take in a lot of renters? Work 18 hours a day, BOTH of them, at crappy jobs with no bennies? Go back to school? How, they need the 18 hours a day to work. And what about any kids they had? before, affordable, now-can't raise them properly. Take the kids to the pawn shop, or what?
Bah! This shit is gonna get much worse before it gets sorted out.
And before anyone with ABSOLUTELY NO CLUE chimes in with "we are a nation of immigrants", sure, it happened, back when all the new immigrants were committing genocide on the native americans and stealing their land..
Pretty easy to absorb millions of new folks that way! Now, that ain't happening, the native guys sorta don't like that genocide action, and you can't steal their land any longer. Times change. We hit the pacific ocean by starting at the atlantic and genociding and stealing all the way across, now, that's it, no more free land. We CAN'T just absorb the worlds excess billion people. And it's a pure RIP to the legal immigrants who jump through all the hoops. And it just perpetuates the sucky government and rank pay the illegals are "offered" by the fatcats back in the old country. If you support amnesty for the illegals, you are supporting severe and extreme capitalist exploitation and racism where those folks come from, because that is why they split in the first place!
Nope for the third time, kick them out before it's too late, NO AMNESTY, force them to change their own nations into something good, they need to have that pressure build up until something happens, and if you want to talk mexico and central amnerica, they have the natural resources and land THERE, they just need to apply the cluestick repeatedly to the heads of their own rich fatcats to get them to pay what passes for a living wage down there. The only thing illegals do in the US is destroy the existing middle class, and I don't want to hear they "will do jobs that native born won't do", that's a big fat lie, a total LIE, we WERE doing all those jobs before the illegals invasion. All the jobs our fatcats shipped to china and india we were doing, all the jobs they stealth give to the illegals here, we were doing. EVERY SINGLE JOB, NO EXCEPTIONS. The already rich wall street assholes and the local greedy corporatist pigs just want to get richer, that's all that is going on with outsourcing jobs and insourcing illegals.
Just restricting the topic to education, the free education from K through 12 that Americans have come to expect as natural and inevitable is only just over a century old. It is a direct result of the industrial revolution, where companies were complaining that they needed more educated workers. that need for more educated workers has not dimmed as we have moved into the information era.
Actually, I'm kind of schizophrenic when it comes to who pays for what. If companies need more educated workers, perhaps companies should be paying for the education of workers instead of dumping the cost of said education on the workers themselves.
