Microsoft to Simplify Downgrades From Vista to XP

castrox writes "Microsoft has noted that many corporate users want to run XP instead of Vista. They are now simplifying the downgrade process for top OEMs. Currently, all OEMs must call Microsoft whenever a downgrade is done. After the new procedure is put into place, OEMs may submit batches of keys to Microsoft online. According to the Microsoft blog on ZDNet, the 'downgrade software' will still need to be supplied by the end user. The deal is rather perplexing — it does not seem like you can convert the license since the only eligible versions for downgrading is Ultimate and Business. The company has more details available in a pdf document online."

As someone who went from vista to xp to make a work laptop work with software I actually need to work properly, I assure you the correct adjective for a move from vista to xp is "upgrade", not "downgrade".

If you want the Vista Experience, make sure to buy a computer with two or four memory slots filled.

Then, open your computer, take half of your RAM out, and throw it away.

I did keep the pretty blue halo busy cursors though. They look great in XP.

I'll just pirate XP! They are forcing me to pirate their software! I would gladly continue to buy XP, at the same price I paid before Vista came out, but they have decided NOT to sell it. But I will NOT install Vista right now and I may never do so due to the incompatibilities. If the only way I can get XP is to pay more for Vista and throw it away because Microsoft allows me to downgrade to XP at the price of Vista, then I will just pirate XP! How about it, Microsoft? Do you want some of my money? Or none of my money?

    Can you hear me NOW?

Have you considered upgrading to Ubuntu? No activation server, no required log back, no auditing, just software that does the job and doesn't get in the way.

    "batches"...
    "batches of keys"...

    He hehee...
MS' server for receiving these batches of keys might burn down...
Unless it's running Vista... In which case, it'll be working towards its own demise.

It'd be cool to send MS a 'batch' of these keys, but make a HUGE file on purpose...
