Galapagos Islands Environment "In Danger"
cagrin writes "On Tuesday the UN's World Heritage Committee added the Galapagos Islands to the list of sites in danger from environmental threats or overuse. From the article: 'The Galapagos Islands, an Ecuadorian territory situated in the Pacific Ocean some 1,000 kilometers (625 miles) from South America, helped shape Charles Darwin's theory of evolution and in 1978 was the first site placed on UNESCO's World Heritage List.' isn't that the truth of it around here? everyone wants someone else to "just do xxx". everyone wants the wealthy to just give away their wealth, they want those trying to make a living to sacrifice to save whatever the cause of the week is even if it means the loss of their own jobs. how many of these people really sacrifice before they open their traps? how many of these people crying about global warming and drilling in alaska are driving suvs and making any reason to justify them in their own minds?
this isn't too far from the music industry discussion either. there is a sadly large core of users who think that artists should "just give away" their music and hope to god to make it on tour money. that might work for large established bands but it would also spell the death of full time professional musicians in about 20 years. no one wants to here that tho, they "just" want the free goods.
slashdot seems to be a junket filled with freeloaders who think they have the answer to the worlds problem as they shit up the environment around them.

Who cares?
The animals on the Galapagos Islands are in danger of dying... and I am sure some environmental psychopath society will want to spends loads of money to fix the problem. While that money could be put to better use by feeding starving children in Africa, helping third-world countries develop an infrastructure, or funding a SimCity-clone that will predict how humans will react to propaganda and warfare.
Stupidity gets someone killed (through hunger in this case), and somewhere The Ghost of Darwin's Past is laughing.
You're making a lot of assumptions, and still haven't answered my question.
If you can't tell me what good you are, why should I let you continue to exist? Isn't that the premise you started with?
