NZ MPs Outlaw Satire of Parliament

mernil writes "New Zealand's Parliament has voted itself far-reaching powers to control satire and ridicule of MPs in Parliament, attracting a storm of media and academic criticism. The new standing orders, voted in last month, concern the use of images of Parliamentary debates, and make it a contempt of Parliament for broadcasters or anyone else to use footage of the chamber for 'satire, ridicule or denigration.' The new rules are actually more liberal than the previous ones, but the threat of felony contempt is new."

Vote Ron Paul then; that should end a lot of the bullshit. He's basically a libertarian running on the Republican ticket (since no third parties can get elected). Read his stand on the issues at ronpaul2008.com; I don't agree with every single issue, but I do the vast majority, and they're completely different from the current stands on most of these issues by the mainstream candidates. He's anti-Iraq war, anti-NAFTA, anti-WTO, anti-PATRIOT-act, etc. All the left-wing WTO-haters should love him, as should the right-wingers who want to return to Constitutional values.
