SCO Loses

An anonymous reader writes "The one summary judgement that puts a stick into SCO's spokes has just come down. The judge in the epic SCO case has ruled that SCO doesn't own the Unix copyrights. With that one decision, a whole bunch of other decisions will fall like dominoes. As PJ says, 'That's Aaaaall, Folks! ... All right, all you Doubting Thomases. I double dog dare you to complain about the US court system now. I told you if you would just be patient, I had confidence in the system's ability to sort this out in the end. But we must say thank you to Novell and especially to its legal team for the incredible work they have done. I know it's not technically over and there will be more to slog through, but they won what matters most, and it's been a plum pleasin' pleasure watching you work. The entire FOSS community thanks you for your skill and all the hard work and thanks go to Novell for being willing to see this through."

What we're all waiting for now is when Yarro, Anderer and McBride go to jail.

What I'm really waiting for is for Bush, Cheny, and Rumsfeld to go to jail. THAT would really restore my faith in the legal system.

Who had stolen to Linus Torvalds in the world trade where the 100'000'000 linux users have to pay $699 by the "prohibited" Linux licence to SCOX?

    SCOX!!!

    100'000'000 x $699 = $69'900'000'000

$69'900'000'000 will be the money for Linus Torvalds, not for SCOX!!!

And who had hired to the development of Linus Torvalds's teams for many years?

    SCOX stopped and feared them!!!

SCOX must to pay the moral DAMAGES to all the developers for more than 10 years!!!

The polished answer will be simple: all versions of the source code of SCOX's UnixWare must to be released to the public after of the judgement or before of its future bankruptcy nearly in September.

    Wellcomed Linus Torvalds!!! ;)

There are traps of the bankruptcies. Novell wants to own "Unix" before of the bankruptcy.

AT&T's UNIX goes to SCOX before of the AT&T bankruptcy.
AT&T's UNIX goes to Novel before of the SCOX bankruptcy.

The trap is "UNIX fakely never did entry to bankruptcy".

The truth will be that UNIX was entried to bankruptcy 2 times!!!

Novell did own Netware, not UnixWare!!!

My comment to them: Hello, I was looking at your site, and I noticed an error on the page found at http://www.sco.com/company/profile.html According to that page, "SCO owns the core UNIX operating system, originally developed by AT&T/Bell Labs and is the exclusive licensor to Unix-based system software providers." I understand that this oversight, and your general stupidity over the past few years is likely a result of the rampant inbreeding in Utah, but I would strongly suggest you remove this section of text - especially considering the bitchslap you oh so dearly deserved, and received from the courts. Thank you for your time, and suck my balls. This message brought to you by the letter Q, the number 09F911029D74E35BD84156C563568C? It seems like Lunix has won... just in time to lose.

The campion of Lunix on the Desktop has quit in despair, blaming Microsoft for his inability to code Lunix into a viable Windows alternative. As a desktop OS, Lunix is still hopelessly chasing Windows 95's tail lights, and that isn't going to change soon. As for market share, desktop Lunix can't even manage a user base above the statistical margin of error, so it's quite possible Lunix has less than zero users.

The claims that Firefox had a significant user base have proven vacuous and false, so once again we are witnessing another FOSS project in decline.

And finally, there is the matter of Lunix infringing on MS's intelectual property. It's possible it won't amount to anything, but it's just as possible it won't. But seeing as how Lunix will never prove a threat to MS, it's unlikely anyone will ever find out.

Not that the demise of teh Lunix will be a bad thing for computing in general. After OS2 Warp and BSD fell into the sewer of history, Windows caught on and created the tech boom almost single-handedly. Even the most rabid zealot has to admit the tech boom would have never happened had Windows not been the disruptive technology it was.

The most positive thing FOSSies could do is start transitioning over to the MS-OSS project site. It's a more business friendly version of OSS, one which isn't openly hostile to commerial software or enterprise usage. It is, in a real-world sense, a realistic and meaningful way to go.

If FOSS were going to rule the world, it would have made at least a little progress by now. Personally, I think the GPL killed FOSS.
