Xbox Live Disallows Linux, Unix As Keywords

shafty023 writes "The Xbox Live online service disallows screen names like LINUXRULES, L I N U X, and other variations of these kinds. Other bloggers are reporting that variants of 'Unix' also result in the message: 'Your motto contains inappropriate language. Please try again.'" If this is an extension of Microsoft's anti-Linux campaign, perhaps it's time they gave it up.

50 dollars a year - add 200-250 dollars to the price of the 360.
No dedicated servers - you're paying for what Microsoft?
Crappy player counts - only 8 for Gears of War, only 16 for Halo 3. That's pathetic.

250 dollars in pointless fees for laggy p2p online games, not being able to use Linux is the least of your complaints....

I'm sick of seeing Linux this, penguin that, or "favourite distro user" popping up in any context some zealot or do-gooder thinks will buy them some eyeball time. I'm happy using and developing for Windows, thank you. Yes, other operating systems exist. I know that. What I don't need is some anal little dipshit trying to push the issue. I will switch, port, or recommend as I see fit, in my own time, and when I'm ready. Pissing me off just pushes you down the queue.

I don't blame Microsoft for banning names like this for trademark and marketing reasons. First, it's could be legally dubious for someone to have a user name that abuses a trademark, then there's the issue of waving red flags in front of bulls. Thinking about that, why should I care? If someone gets their hide sued off, or pisses of some biz guy or developer who happens just to want to enjoy a game, go right ahead. Spray your leet business skillz and shrink mindshare.

It's the same shit with letting some goddamn Linux evangelist into a company. They start converting servers and applications over to GPL shite if you don't keep an eye on them. Christ, it's as bad as getting some bloody born again christian woman into an office. All they do is whine and fucking moan at any banter that looks too gritty or racy, though it's a shade less annoying than letting poofs work in childrens television, with all the "liberal" innuendo they try to sneak in.

Gays, feminists, and Linux users. Who needs 'em? They're more trouble than they're worth.

But no, you couldn't be bothered to do that. You had to jump in and start questioning people because your tiny little brain didn't pick up the fucking reference.
