Cosmic Rays From Galactic Black Holes

dork writes in with word of a study that contradicts, at least for the highest-energy events, the recent conclusion that cosmic rays are probably formed in supernova remnants. The Pierre Auger Observatory in Argentina has announced that active galactic nuclei are the most likely candidates for the source of the highest-energy cosmic rays that hit Earth. The researchers found that the sources of these highly energetic events are not distributed uniformly across the sky, linking their origins to the locations of nearby galaxies hosting active nuclei in their centers. These galaxies are thought to be powered by supermassive black holes that are devouring large amounts of matter. The exact mechanism of how particles get accelerated to energies 100 million times higher than achievable by the most powerful particle accelerators on Earth is still unknown. The observatory has made 1% of its events available through a public online event display."

The post has no purpose other to make other people say "what the fuck", nothing more. I don't sit around waiting for a first post, frosty piss or whatever. Actually I was bugging around on another forum asking questions about a transmission on a classic truck I've been restoring and thought I would quickly hop over to slashdot and take a peek. There wasn't any comments so I typed the first absolute random crap that popped into my head. I have no fancy software to watch for new topics. I don't code and don't know how so I don't know if anything like that even exists. I wouldn't bother with it if I did. Nothing is pre-planned. I'm pretty random so I can think of off-the-wall shit on the fly.

I have a regular slashdot UID, it's in the lower 5-digits and I post sporadically, when there is something that catches me attention. I'm here for the science more so than IT shit, so not everything is interesting. Obviously I'm not going to give my real ID since I have great karma and don't want it to turn to shit.

I think trolling and obscene comments are what make slashdot fun. There are a bunch of uptight nerds here that have no sense of humor and no life. You know the type, never left an upper-decker, never got drunk as fuck with a bunch of friends while watching NFL, never left gay porn as the background on the library computer. Yea, it's immature, but so what. It's life and if you can't laugh about without it involving the simpsons, star trek or whatever the hell they show on the sci-fi channel, then what the hell is the point.
