Google Pages to be Replaced by JotSpot

fyc writes "According to a presentation by Scott Johnson, ex-JotSpot executive and recent Google employee, the JotSpot wiki service acquired late last year by Google is to replace Google's own Pages service. The new service will be called as Google Sites and will launch next year. From the presentation: 'Based on JotSpot collaboration tools, Sites will allow business to set up intranets, project management tracking, customer extranets, and any number of custom sites based on multi-user collaboration.'"

For most small IT Companies they have a server perhaps with some sort of raid, and know they should backup daily but usually get it once a month... Even for Mid sized companies managing all the data and keeping it safe is a lot of work and is expensive. And this is why I'm glad my family business is going to trust me with their data. I'll be the one inheriting it some day, and will soon be in charge of handling the IT backbone for the company (as soon as the rest of the shares are purchased from another family member who is no longer able to do his job due to illness).

I basically have an unlimited budget... Nothing like going from no web presence to multiple providers, round-robin DNS, Squid caches, several hosts, several databases - all overnight. Overkill? Absolutely. The need for it? Practically non-existant. A great way to boost my stats at BOINC while providing rock-solid service, all at no cost to me? Priceless!

Between that, wiring the place for HDTV, setting up a wireless hotspot, some work automating scheduling, putting solar panels on the roof, and creating a business on the side to produce biodiesel, I should be set. As I say "I'll charge you $15 an hour. I'll be drunk and lazy while I do my job, and it will take me 5 hours to do what most professionals would get done in an hour. You want results now, find someone else. You want results eventually, I'm your man. You'll still pay less having me do it, I'll do a better job, and I'll have a damn good time doing it too."

You'd be surprised how many people are impressed by that pitch ;) Honesty is worth something after all.
