Fark Seeks to Trademark NSFW

I Don't Believe in Imaginary Property writes "The term NSFW is about to join the :( emoticon, going from a generic, oft-used internet abbreviation, to one company's exclusive trademark. Fark is seeking a trademark on the use of NSFW to describe naughty online content. Of course, they may face a bit of a battle because more than a few other people are already using the term NSFW to describe their products and services. Not that that's stopped anyone in the past." And, of course, the whole thing could be a big practical joke.

    8========D (tm) is an official trademark of CockCo. It may not be used unless royalties are paid (in the form of sexual favors) to it's owner, CockCo.

    You cannot patent "NSFW". WE INVENTED THAT. "WE" being the INTERNET, the faceless masses!

    Fucking corporate pigs, you know this is exactly the type of shit fark pulls... That's why anyone with a brain hates their guts, just like Ebaums world. Stupid douche bags.

    If they do this, I'm going to start a website where I capitalise on the term, just to break patent laws. Then I'll take the money, cash it, and throw it into the crowd at an Internet convention or something similar. JUST TO PISS THEM OFF.

    Your mentality about ads is just fucking stupid. Would you rather they charge for access? And it isn't your internet. You request that they serve you a page. They don't have to do that for you, they choose to because they think that you will do something for them in return. But oh no, seeing a picture on the edges of the content you are looking for is just too much. I can see blocking intrusive ads, but just typical images, or even animated banner ads shouldn't be a problem unless you're grandstanding because you are a fucking moron and feel that it violates some principle. You think all of the websites you go to should be doing it for free and absorbing the cost of their hosting and bandwidth? Yeah, see how far that gets you.
