Rock Band Drum Kit Modded

Brett "Buzz" Dawson writes "Seeing all of the Guitar Hero guitar mods I thought it would be an interesting change of pace to mod a full-sized drum kit for use as a Rock Band game controller. With everything that I build I take lots of pictures to document the build process so here is the full build of my drum kit." Fortunately at my house Kathleen has been doing the drumming, so I don't think I need to go to these extremes to handle the abuse. I'm more interested in mods that let you use the original drums as a real instrument like the guitar mods that are floating out there. The tiny bits of drum solo time in Rock Band don't satisfy my internal Keith Moon.

And everyone looked at the drumsticks proclaiming their excitement over REAL drumsticks... Those toothpicks they give you with rockband wouldn't last one set. Actually having a drum set, full sized... might make it a better experience for people who have played real set in the past. I know I'd break the little "set" that comes with the game without trying...

Then again, Rockband has as much to do with playing music as Dance Dance Revolution has to do with dancing. You do better if you CAN'T actually do it.

Having several several drum kits in my basement and been a drummer for the last oh... 30 years, I'm wondering kids playing this "Drum Controller" will actually think that one day they will be able to play real drums.

I've played Guitar Hero with the "Guitar controller" and it is nothing like playing a real guitar. Even the $3,000 electronic drum kits you find in the music stores don't compare to the real set of drums. There is nothing like the kick back feel of a 22 inch bass drum for doing your doubles or triplets with a peddle. That plastic thing must be annoying.

Even cymbals when you hit them move and have a feed back feel to them, nothing like even the plastic things on the most expensive electronic drum kits.

The only real way to play the game should be on a real set of drums.

Maybe one day they can come up with a "College Controller" or a "Engineering controller" or even a "Rocket science controller". Naahh..... Too much effort.

Anonymous Coward... Who said I was good.... Just because I've play a lot of kits doesn't mean that I am any good at it. I do know the feel of a good drum kit and how/placement of drums, should be to get the most out of them. This "Drum Controller" is just trash. I will say again even being modded as troll since the last modder didn't read the sentence... The game should be played on a real set of drums. None of the simulation of the "Drum Controller" will easily transfer to a real set. Why waste time on this simulation if you really want to learn how to play drums???? Or are there jobs out there for the best "Drum Controller" player??? Mod me as flamebate... But when are they coming out with a "I've got a real job controller"?? or a "move out of parents basement controller"??? "College degree controller"??? Is is just simulation isn't it???? Nathan

And here I was thinking this site was "news for nerds" and not "news for wannabe Dance Dance Revolution type games experts."

Perhaps if they released Code Code Revolution where you design UIs in time to a beat or something, but Rock Band?
