Muslim Groups Attempt to Censor Wikipedia

'A Frequently Asked Questions page explains the site's polite but firm refusal to remove the images: "Since Wikipedia is an encyclopedia with the goal of representing all topics from a neutral point of view, Wikipedia is not censored for the benefit of any particular group." The notes left on [online petitions against the page] come from all over the world. "It's totally unacceptable to print the Prophet's picture," Saadia Bukhari from Pakistan wrote in a message. "It shows insensitivity towards Muslim feelings and should be removed immediately."'"
Get the ACLU and the Democratic party involved. They love saying all are equal while separating people into groups and treating them differently.
I want the images (and any other requested censorship content) to stay. I am offended by censorship! Does it help if I say it is disrespectful to my beliefs?
I'm a Muslim who also happens to be quite active on the Wiki and I see absolutely no reason why the pictures should be taken out. But then again, I see nothing wrong with starting an online petition either. Somehow, I wasn't surprised to see Zonk's name associated with the sensationalist headline.

Hi, I'm Mohamed, and I deeply apologize the the idiocy of my believers. Really, I just wanted to marry 12 year old and beat women, I didn't think it would get all crazy like this, Praise me.
With all this free time to be whiny about other people, clearly I didn't give enough work to do to my followers. So for now on, my followers can no longer touch anything electronic, and must spend their days hiding in there huts, and only adult men can leave to gather food, but for no more then 2 hours a day. Muslims must also never take any violent action, or encourage others to do so for any reason what so ever. Also, to prove yourself, all adult Muslims must fast without ANY food or drink for oh..lets say 40 days. If you really believe you will be fine, if you get hungry or thirsty just believe harder.

Why can't we have an arrangement on Wikipedia, that handles scandalous contents by using URL-links as used by some of the Hollywood web-rag-mags, which takes someone to a web page warning of scandalous contents, and then finally shows the in-the-news-photos?

How about this instead. If they want to cry, we can give them something to cry about. Remember these 1.2 billion muslims are protected by the our compassion, mercy and desire to avoid creating high paying jobs reclaiming radioactive, vitirfied sand. Get real. Life is a compromise - what's easier.. grossly offending about 22% of the world's population or taking down a couple of pictures? Censorship exists *everywhere* and there's no point in getting pissy when it happens to not agree with your worldview.

I can't believe how sick I'm getting reading this thread. How would half the /.ers here feel if there were pictures of Jesus getting rammed up the ass with a beurwolf cluster of Windows 98 machines on Wikipedia? The simple printing of the prophet Muhommad's picture is as offensive to a Muslim as goatse is to the Pope. Muslims would rather look at 2 Girls, 1 Cup then see the prophet's likeness in print or on the web. And that's their choice to choose. Don't forget that Christians and Jews refuse to say God's name in vain. This is no different. Now the average /.er may be an internet hardened nerd and takes no offense at anything, but certainly you can understand that _some_ people take offence at _some_ things.
Think of it like someone sending you an HTML email. In UTF-16. With a TinyURL link in there. To a Word document. With a VB macro. Yes, it's that bad and worse.

And I'd like to take exception to the phrase '[Jesus had a] sin-free life'. Do you say this because you were taught to say this? Is your world view contingent upon this single phrase being a fact? Is this spoken by you because there is empirical or otherwise factual evidence supporting this phrase? Or were writers acting completely free of poetic license 50 years after the enscribed events, during a time when exaggeration and ass kissing were standard practice in literature.
Consider that people of Jesus' day would not have characterized Jesus as being 'sin free'. He was a vandal, a vagrant, a political dissident, he did not respect his elders, nor his family's culture, he was ultimately put down as a common criminal. And this is all from the text that exults him. Never mind the suppressed documents.
The party line response to the above is that Jesus was held to a higher standard - God's standard.. Which completely ignores the fact that God likely has not directly told you this, nor is God the vendor that sold you or your preacher's translated copy of the bible (e.g. at best a filtered and imperfect view of history). Never mind the fact that Jesus presumably broke the existing highly detailed standard of God's law. So all this argument does is move the implausibility of "sin-free", to the implausibility of a pair of 1,948 to 1,928 year removed messenger-of-God manuscripts (amongst a likely thousands of other suppressed documents) (aside - yes by this I mean that there are only two distinct texts in the gospel). The party line response to this is that God wouldn't allow his word to be corrupted - for he is the light of the world. This is further 'reinforced' by the knowledge that his light will win out in the end times.. Since that wouldn't be possible if all knowledge of the truth were lost along the way - and how could his followers know the path without such a passage, then certainly this otherwise circular logic MUST be true. Of course the Mormons have a way out - Hidden documents and other modern-day revelations to remind us of lost historical truths.
Finally, as for 'the law must be fulfilled, and then He fulfilled it..' - you're essentially asserting that the symbolic fullfillment of physically prophesized events has significance.. Then fine, I will symbolically end world hunger by dramatically finishing my yogurt - their souls will no longer hunger at least (ask a Jehova's witness if that stings a little).
