debatem1 writes "Apparently, anti-violent-video-games crusader Jack Thompson is at it again, this time writing a letter to the mother of Strauss Zelnick, Chairman of Take-Two, the company that produces the GTA series of video games. In it he compares Zelnick to a member of the Hitler Youth, advocates beating the young Zelnick, and contemplates the existence of a Ted Bundy merit badge for boy scouts."
The GTA series of games are getting worse and worse. They're practically training courses in how to break the law. You can choose - live in a civilized world or live in a world where anything goes. It's your choice, but don't complain about the consequences, like when your car is hijacked and your wife and children are murdered because they got in the way.

The comparison is more than apt, since the Boy Scouts is a Christian organization which exists as much to promote a supposedly-Christian ethic (won't get into it now) as it does to provide wilderness skills. Which has done more damage to the world through ideology is up for debate.

And seriously, the kinds of attacks against him here are no less one sided than the man himself. This forum is out of control on this topic. And I say this as a senior engineer in the games industry eagerly awaiting my copy of GTA which is in the mail.
In large part this is simply a matter of perspective, and a case of impassioned arguments that are untempered by a close look at the facts. And again, being less aware of the facts and thinking you were trying to save lives you might just email some "evil" CEO's mother yourself. If we sided with the man we would be applauding him, not questioning his mental health.

I do, however, wonder if Jack Thompson and Phelps are related. Phelps was a lawyer who got disbarred. If Thompson gets disbarred, do you think he will open an "Eastboro Baptist Church"?
