Metal Gear Solid 4 Not the End

1up gaming is reporting that while Metal Gear Solid 4 may be the end of the road for Solid Snake, the series will live on. "The Metal Gear series is one of the most successful (and profitable) in modern gaming. Would it surprise you, then, to learn that Metal Gear Solid 4 might not be the end of the franchise after all, despite recent comments from series creator Hideo Kojima that led some to speculate MGS4 would be the series' last? Speaking to MTV Multiplayer, MGS4 producer Ryan Peyton confirmed that the series will live on after Guns of the Patriots. But while we may see more games with 'Metal Gear' in the title, we may not see 'Solid' in there as well."

That's not correct. The original Japanese title was exactly what it is now - fainaru fantajii (sorry, Slashdot does not allow Japanese text as far as I can tell). The box art for the original Japanese famicom release is available here.

Yeah, FF was released after Dragon Quest, a series which did pretty well and the original made a lot of money for an entirely different company. DQ was originally by Enix, which had nothing to do with Square or Square's FF at the time. They didn't merge until very recently, you may remember. FF was very much their last stab at glory.
