Cisco CSO Says Antivirus Money "Completely Wasted"
mernil writes with an excerpt that kicks off a story at ZDNet Australia: "Companies are wasting money on security processes — such as applying patches and using antivirus software — which just don't work, according to Cisco's chief security officer John Stewart. Speaking at the AusCERT 2008 conference in the Gold Coast yesterday, Stewart said the malware industry is moving faster than the security industry, making it impossible for users to remain secure."
Yeah, like invading Iraq, for instance.
Oops, wrong example of subtle taxpayer money handling.
Smile, don't click...
Security has been "job #1" for Microsoft since the "I love you" virus back in 2000 or so. That job has obviously failed. Non free software companies can not afford to polish their code the way the free software world does, so this should have been obvious in principle from the start. Good for Cisco to say so.
Linux is shit. A little extra security is not worth losing 100% productivity. That's the problem with the MAC/Linux people. They discount the value of productivity because they like their OS more than their applications.
onsidering you're either a Microsoft fanboi or an astroturfer why should you be surprised?
