Large Web Host Urges Customers to Use Gmail
1sockchuck writes "LA hosting company DreamHost, which hosts more than 700,000 web sites, is encouraging its customers to use Google's Gmail for their e-mail, rather than the DreamHost mail servers. DreamHost is continuing to support all its existing e-mail offerings, but said in a blog post that email is "just not something people are looking for from us, and it's something the big free email providers like Yahoo, Microsoft, and Google can do better." DreamHost addresses a question about Google that has vexed many web hosting companies: is Google a useful partner, or a competitor that intends to make "traditional" web hosting companies obsolete? In this case, partnering with Google offers DreamHost a way to offload many of its trouble tickets, reducing the support overhead. Is Google starting to make web hosts less necessary?"

Not a day goes by where some American doesn't demand more liberties be taken away by demanding security against some perceived insecurity while thinking that their personal liberty won't be harmed by taking away the liberties of those who give them offense. Americans constantly ask our government to do more when we should be seeking to keep the government under control instead of empowering the government to control its citizens.
We still love liberty here, that is part of the reason for the do not call list, but the fact that you are required to opt out instead of opt in to be called is a further example of our tolerance of abuse of liberty. Many obviously tolerate abuse from corporations as well, such as setting up email accounts you know will be scanned and spammed on, something I for one would never sign up for. At least Gmail is an opt in situation as you don't have to use their service. After all, as long as you don't mind their proboscis inserted in your rectum, then I guess there is no problem, of course anyone that sends you an email also gets it shoved up theirs as well. Hopefully, if they truely are attempting to follow their "do no evil" motto then none of this is stored but goes straight to
