New Grads Shun IT Jobs As "Boring"
whencanistop writes "Despite good job prospects, graduates think that a job in IT would be boring. Is this because of the fact that Bill Gates has made the whole industry look nerdy? Surely with so many (especially young) people being 'web first' with not just their buying habits, but now in terms of what they do in their spare time, we'd expect more of them to want to get a career in it?"
Those so called slackers weren't copying, they were actually developing a form of distributed revision control! Think about it. The more people you let copy your work, the more likely you can get back an exact duplicate or even an older revision, in the case that your copy becomes corrupt. :)
Ah, sorry, I'm a little off topic.
Those times are gone my friend. Now if we go to any IT department, there are no more California kids dreaming of becoming the new Hewlett and Packard. But, instead, there are plenty of "poor-English spoken" Asians that were promoted straight from some customer service slum to the R&D department. Those kind that post things on the Internet forums like: "Hy am Abu frum Mubai, have an good PBX sista end nid maki muny stillin frum may dictrotorsheap telophany comp" and always ending with some hip sentence like: "U guys now I am a niga frum the striit".
That is why pretty much all software developed today suck. With the rare exception of the ones developed in Germany. (I am not German, or a German descendant)
I, myself, turned down many jobs just because I saw some Asian guys on the cubicles when the boss-to-be was taking me to office-sightseeing after the interview. They smell bad, and look worse. And if they come to me asking what I do on my "spair" time, then I will run to the door as fast as I can.
And just to show that God is on my side, the captcha for this post was UNIONIZE, what I pretty much think we should do: unionize and find a way to deport all those H1B holders back to their slums...
Look up the difference, then carry along with your ignorant corporate bashing.
Your job is mostly what you wish it to be. That's a good thing because it can also be like you fear.
