AVG Backs Down From Flooding the Internet
Simon Wright writes "As a website that is featured heavily in many Google Australia search results, Whirlpool (Australia's largest technology forum) has been particularly affected by AVG's LinkScanner. We've seen a traffic increase as much as 12 hits per second from these bots. So we've actively and loudly campaigned against this move by AVG, encouraging all users of AVG 8.0 to uninstall the product. The discussion starts here. And AVG's backing down is posted here."
From that URL:"'As promised, I am letting you know that the latest update for AVG Free edition has addressed and rectified the issue that [Whirlpool] have brought to our attention. This update has now been released to users and has also been built into the latest installation package for AVG Free.' — Peter Cameron, Managing Director, AVG Australia."
AVG is shit.
It is comparable to Norton in its resource hogging ability and lack of useful updates.
Run Linux, then you can tell all those virus-writing-wankstains to go suck a fat cuze.
As a jackass is really the reason you don't care. Opera? Elitest swine, are you fucking your 14 yo son right now? You're a sick fuck.
Just so you're aware, no one actually cares. At all.
But thanks for sharing. Did you need a box of tissues?
Tell you what, why do you write this up as a big article and submit it to all the sites like Reddit, Digg, StumbleUpon. I'd vote for it, it's a heartfelt post about, well, whatever it's a about. +1 would read again.

... And this is why virus's will continue to spread without much resistance. Users don't know the difference between crap and a real working antivirus program.
Developers such as AVG can't play with the big boys. These companies (Avast, AVG, etc. and so forth)lack the experience, government contracts, forensic specialists and every other tool available to really make a difference in the anti-virus war. The algorithms, filtering and scanning technologies these products use at best a "best-effort" and should be given recognition but should not be used to protect anything important. Here's the analogy: If you are having sex with A LOT of people at one time, an orgy, the only way to ensure the best protection is to wear condoms developed by the world's leading authorities on disease, prevention, etc. and so on. SO goes it with digital sex, which is what a network of PCs and devices really is, in the digital world.
AVG and Avast are neat diversions from "the standards" but they should not ever be taken seriously for business, corporate, enterprise, government, or any other real-life protection use. Symantec and even McAfee (although McAfee is another failure in most respects) are not bloated in the corporate version but they are processor intensive and can slow systems down, yes. This is not a reason to use something other than Symantec however.
The truth of the matter is, today, one product cannot protect a system fully. And even a toolbox full of applications will only protect you 99% of the time. A few WILL slip through and that will always be the case. As long as your PC or device is "connected" to a network, you are at risk and that is the reality. Smart administrators and people who have their own home networks would be well advised to employ an additional device on their network called a "Gateway Security Appliance". These devices, like your modem, connect to the network, usually in between your modem and router device, and continuously scan all traffic in and out of your network to the internet for threats. If a threat is found it is dealt with before reaching your PC or being re-transmitted FROM your PC. It protects the internet from YOU too; and this is where the REAL value comes in.
As long as we have uneducated "users" on our internet, they should also be expected to ensure OUR safety from them. Don't be a dummy, get a Gateway Security Appliance!
