Scientists Find Trigger For Northern Lights

OK, I'm being unfair. The ending is magnificent, it's just a shame most people probably give up before reaching it.

Sure sure, a trigger for the Northern Lights, sounds wonderful but think of the sacrifices. Poor Roger did nothing do deserve this!

Why don't you fire an intense and powerful enough laser to ionize a conducting path to wherever those currents are and see what happens ;).
Oh yeah, while you're at it though, try not to massively disrupt the earth's magnetosphere which apparently shields us from a fair bit of the crap the Sun chucks and emits at us.
So now we know that moderation is done automatically, based on the presence of "suspect" words and the pattern they are in. Its the only explanation possible because no human being could have been stupid enough to mod the parent as a troll otherwise.
And don't let this self-contradictory post dissuade you from reading it if you haven't. Amber Spyglass is easily the best of the trilogy.
